Hyponic jerks

As some of you have seen i've increased Duloxetine from 60mg to 90mg just over 2 weeks ago. Since Saturday night i've been getting hyponic jerks when trying to go to sleep. Its horrendous. Could this be the duloxetine ?? I had felt my anxiety was slightly better but this has knocked me for six. Anyone had this ?? Many thanks. I have contacted my psychiatrist so waiting to hear back

I would think it’s caused by the increase in dose. I can’t go higher than 60 mg without the same effects.

Oh ok, did it just stop or did it take a while ?

I’m afraid I went back to 60 mg after a couple of weeks. Anything over 60 mg was significantly raising my BP. This is mentioned in Patient Information Leaflet.

Yes i did see it in the leaflet. I just really hoped it wasn't the Duloxetine. I'm hopefully getting to speak to the psychiatrist tomorrow so i'll see what he says. Thank you for your help

You’re welcome - and I hope that your psychiatrist is able to help.

When I reduced the dose, it stopped within a few days.

The doctor told me that doses higher than 60 mg can raise cortisol which causes anxiety, raised BP etc. This was certainly so in my case - but I know that others get to a higher dose without difficulty.

Why do they prescribe it for anxiety 🤷‍♀️

It’s crazy isn’t it? Unfortunately I’ve tried three ADs and they’ve all made me very anxious. Fluoxetine and Citalapram were the other two

I was also prescribed Amitriptyline for migraine. I was told it would also help my sleep. I had what my doctor called a ‘rare paradoxical reaction’. I was up all night, angry and my anxiety levels were through the roof.

I think it’s something to do with neurotransmitters and brain chemistry. Norepinephrine is increased with many ADs (not Duloxetine) and can make anxious personalities worse.

Anxiety is so difficult to live with and no one really understands. My husband says I must stop worrying - but it’s about so much more than worry isn’t it. For me it’s about not being in control and not able to stop things that worry me. At the moment, the world news is a tremendous trigger for my anxiety.

I was on Sertraline previously but it just stopped working. I really don't want to swap to another AD, i've had a few different ones in the past. I've definitely got GAD, there's nothing specific that makes my anxiety worse although the anxiety itself worries me. I lose all my confidence and find it hard to join in with things. I hope you start to improve. Let's keep in touch if you'd like to.
