I've started listing ideas of what I can do over the coming weeks as fall has begun.. I'm curious to know what everyone else does and especially the different traditions/ideas from those of you who live in other countries!!
Here are my ideas so far:
- Volunteer at an animal shelter
- Paint pumpkins
- Decorate the house/yard

I definitely need to find out where the nearest forest of trees with crunchy leaves is! I live near a couple national forests but there are no crunchy leaves, just pine needs and such.
Agora, that's awesome! I struggle with meditation, but guided ones are nice. A guided meditation with the concept that nature surrounding you represents love sounds awesome to me. Thanks for sharing!
I miss apple orchards! I always get the new apple varieties in the supermarket. There are very few orchards in my area so they are shipped in from Washington mostly.
Growing up, I lived in the north. Autumn was a beautiful time. Our dad didn’t make us rake, but we sure made a mess playing in the piles. Our town allowed burning so we’d have a bonfire of some of the leaves. Yeah, marshmallows, too. Every year, we’d pull out last years cold weather clothes, see what we grew out of, who got the hand me downs and who was getting the new stuff. Mom would get out her Singer and do the customizing.Every Autumn, I drag out old photos of those times. Living in the south, my fall tradition for good feelings is making sure my air conditioner is in shape. That definitely helps my mood. 😁
"Mom would get out her Singer and do the customizing." Love it. I remember when I got something new my younger sister already had her eye on it because she knew that eventually it would be hers. You can never get attached to your clothes when you come from a big family!🧔👩👩🦰👩🦰👩🦰👦👧
😂wow, 5 kids! We had 4. My older sisters were glad to be rid of their woolen clothes when we moved to the south. I did a lot of sweating then 🥵…..I was the only one in high school that wore wool. 😁
I love the smell of the crisp fall air, leaves changing color and falling off the trees. I would love raking leaves into a big pile and jumping into it as a child. It was so much fun to do with my younger siblings. Something about rolling around in the crunchy leaves...Pure joy😊
I just checked online and it looks like you are in luck because you are in a metro area served by Nextdoor. Download the free app "Nextdoor". I use it on my phone, it's very convenient. After signing up for your neighborhood, post a message saying you are looking for volunteer opportunities and you will get answers as to where to go. I volunteer on the Nextdoor help map. People in my neighborhood can see my name on the help map and send me a message if they are feeling lonely because I've volunteered to stop by and chat with them. You can volunteer to walk dogs 🦮 for people who are sick or unable to walk their dogs for example. My point is that there are probably volunteer opportunities right in your own neighborhood. In fact one of the libraries in my neighborhood just had a new member event at a local brewery 🍻 and volunteers helped with that.
Anyway, I hope you try this app. I've been helped and I've helped several neighbors on Nextdoor. Good luck and best wishes.🌞
Lol, same. I think it's funny how the general world has one view of what "fall" smells like, looks like, tastes like, etc. and yet most people live in climates that are not even close to the stereotype!
When someone told me that they always spend Halloween mushing through snow in snowsuits from one house to the next, it took me a while to wrap my head around it! XD
As the nights lengthen, the leaves fall off, we in the UK call it Autumn, I have returned back to my infamous true crime book, half of HU have heard about it, but an unsolved murder from 195 years ago, has now recently got my grey cells going amiss, scratchy head "unsolved" and very relevant to the book's theme and my main characters? 😗 Just the thing my pension due in a few months, bad health all my life, all those NI payments? Apparently I must have done something right? not far off top whack!🙃 I think a new laptop will be needed, this one is 🥴 maybe I can really test the portability of it, get out a bit? Not brush up a few leaves, sounds like too hard work?
Fall is far and away my favorite season! Love this time of year. I love it when you start to get those cool crisp mornings, it really helps wake you up when you step outside. Definitely the best time of year for hiking. There's a state park not far from me with a seven mile trail that packs in 18 or 19 waterfalls. It's quite a work out but in autumn it's so beautiful; like stepping into another world.
