My worst enemy...

...is me. I want to embrace my anxiety and funnel that energy into the joy of being in the moment and the awe of the future ahead of me. I do believe that way, but sometimes the anxiety keeps me in protective mode. Suspicious, insecure. The key is learning to harness it. Every anxious moment is an opportunity to do that. Ride it like a rollercoaster with your arms up. That is the goal.

Hey, Rbca I am also starting a new job on Monday so this really helped me embrace the anxiety around it instead of thinking maybe I won't go (protective mode) or I'll just take a lot of anti-anxiety meds with me (also protective mode)

Wow, no way! Well, we are certainly in good company then :). I’m really glad my post was helpful! That means a lot :). I think we’ll both do great; it’s just fearing the fear. Is there anything about your new job you are looking forward to?

Yeah definitely the fear of the unknown for me. Well I am looking forward to meet a lot of new people :). I've also been working hard to get this job, so generally excited, for me it's also just hoping my anxiety won't mess it up haha. How about you? what are you looking forward to?

That’s awesome and must feel like a huge accomplishment—which it is! Meeting new people is great, too. It’s hard as adult to meet new people (I find), so there are lots of possibilities to make friends. What is your field? Positives in this new role for me are making significantly more money which will be helpful as things have been really tight and having a less stressful job (I think!).

Its Psychology believe it or not haha. How did your day go ? Mine went better then expected :)

Omg, psychology? That’s epic! Lol. So happy to hear your day went well! Did the anxiety try to bubble up at all? My day was ok. It was a bit discombobulated with not having a computer for me set up and trying to figure out how to get an email for me. I was actually supposed to start on the 17th, but my work place was closed due to the flooding and hurricane. I think that has thrown a lot of people off!

Hey Rbca I try to roll with it but very little things trigger my insecurities which would lead to thoughts and anxiety, I try so hard to go through the day without thinking or getting scared but I even reminisce about the word I spoke in the day, I just want to be happy and not have to care about things I shouldn’t care about...how do I do things? Get my mind off things

Hey Rubystones,

I think ocd can be linked to anxiety disorders which can make us focus on tiny things. Mountains out of molehills, as they say. And, it’s hard trying to simply talk yourself out of obsessing. It’s like telling yourself not to think of the color blue...it makes you think of the color blue! I think a strategy that can be helpful is to distract your brain altogether. It sounds trite, but a quick walk, or chatting with someone, grabbing a coffee...are all things that interrupt the synapses. It’s all about making new pathways in the brain. The more you take a different (mental) route, the more that more positive pathway will develop.

Thank you Rbca! I don’t exactly have someone to hang or even chat with(don’t know how to relate with people) but thanks!

I needed this because I love to shy away from my anxiety which isn't healthy.
