Hi guys, it’s been a while since my last post. Over a month ago, I got a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, and developed such severe insomnia I needed to be hospitalized. (It was pretty bad, I didn’t sleep for days on end.)
I’m not exactly back to normal (yet, I hope). My sleep isn’t as restful as it used to be by a long shot. I’m just wondering (hoping) there are people on here with bipolar disorder who did manage to reach back to “stable” and have their ability to sleep properly return to them.
Thank you for reading!

Well I don’t have it but my husband does, he takes Seroquel I think it’s called. His doc is having him cut back because he was tired during the day. It will take some time for you to get back to normal but you will. Wish I had more for you. Ever take melatonin? Sometimes it helps but too much can cause irritability. Also, GABA and calcium-magnesium can help your mind relax at night before bed.
Thanks for the advice, @strongheartforever. It means a lot to hear that I can come back to “normal”. I don’t know if I’m at a seroquel level, but I’ll keep it noted. I have been taking zypraxa and trazadone, which seems to help actually.
So many wonderful people have bipolar. It’s totally treatable. And it’s good to know what you’re dealing with. I’m sure more folks will chime in later with more advice about the sleep thing. And the sleep thing is a huge deal, the way it impacts your mind and quality of life, it’s no small thing. So I’m wishing you the best.
