Panic Attacks

I’m looking for someone, or a group, to talk to about my extremely intense panic attacks. It’s difficult for many people to understand panic disorder and I’m hoping someone here will understand what it’s like.

Hi mo, you can trust that all of us do understand both panic and anxiety attacks. Panic attacks being the more intense but shorter lived. It interrupts your life, makes you fear the next one because of giving you symptoms like you are on death's door.

I hope you join in letting us know more about what prompted anxiety to start as well as how long you have been suffering with panic attacks. Are you on medication, receiving therapy? Everything and anything to do with Anxiety and it's issues have brought us together on this forum. It's makes no difference what age, man or woman alike, we are all subject to the same fear and panic.

I'd like to welcome you to the forum where you can be assured in it being a safe, caring place to come and talk with others who truly support each other. Help is just a message away xx

Hi there

I have had panic attacks since I had a 5 hour sinus op in London 15 years ago.

Doctor wanted to put me on beta blockers- I rejected but he did say ' what do u like doing and enjoying?'

That's the key- just breathe close your eyes and imagine something nice like the sun on your face, walking through water etc( caution-don't close eyes if driving!!)

I then suffered a few years ago trauma and still have them. My doctor gives me ' buccal' for immediate use into mouth to dissolve. ( I have acid reflux, belching and I I start weaving about so perhaps we have different needs.

What do u do when u are having a panic attack

Also- I was told by another doctor when I close my eyes I should chant' love and trust' over and over. It does help to concentrate your mind. U could try these things - see if it helps! Good luck and I wish u well as this is a dreadful affliction.too

When I get really bad it’s so difficult to focus my thoughts on one thing. My therapist has me writing a list of all the details of where I would like to be during an attack. I usually try to turn the tv on low and keep myself as cold as possible with a fan, cold towel, etc because I get really hot. The attacks can be extremely vicious and last up to two hours. I haven’t tried chanting but it would definitely be something I’d like to try.

Hi mo, try not to despair, easier said than done I know! Have you checked out you tube? I went there two years ago when I had to treat someone with severe intense panic attacks! Unfortunately when they were having theirs they couldn't sit and focus on anything, they had to get out of the house and keep walking for as long as it lasted which was usually early hours of the morning! Depression was developing and the waiting list for help was 16 weeks! So I put my own tweak on what I had learned myself about depression. It took me 16 weeks of my own version of cbt when he wasn't having an attack to sort him out. I think the worst thing was the fear! Anyway he did it without meds, it was a really bad time but he got there in the end and is fine now. I think it's a case of re-programming your brain which isn't easy but with the right help you can get there. Good luck.

Thank you so much! People keep telling me to look into CBT and I hadn’t even hears of it before. I would love to try something new and I appreciate the reply and support. Good to hear it worked for you and for someone you treated, I’ll look into it. Thanks again!
