A friend has advised I take chia seeds but I have been reading they need to be taken with caution when taking anti coagulants.Anyone know more about this please.

I'd ask for advice from the anticoagulant team.Personally I was advised to dose the diet don't diet the dose. As a vegetarian I would regularly have at least 3 or 4 of the "banned" items daily. Just had to up my warfarin.

thank you for pointing me to your post. 😊That sounds sensible and is what I do with other items. I don’t restrict my vegetables like leafy greens but I just have a checking routine that enables me to keep my INR on track.

I guess it’s the same principle with the chia seeds. And start low and go slow. 😊

Well I use a heaped teaspoon once a day and it has solved my constipation problem.More reading says use with caution so I use a quarter to half of what my friend recommends.I am on the noac edoxaban and have no way of testing.

Thank you. Of course. That sounds very sensible. Glad it’s working for you. 👏

Hi kkatz, sorry to sidetrack with a question of my own, but I’m trying to find natural ways to resolve constipation (I already daily eat prunes, kefir yoghurt, porridge and a lot of vegetables!) May I ask how you eat your chia seeds in a way they help your constipation? Thanks!

I’m on a NOAC like you (in my case Apixaban) and sorry I don’t know if the caution applies to NOACs too, or whether they just potentially affect warfarin doses. Jx

On cereals mainly .I use about a heaped or 1.5 teaspoons.I have a friend that grinds them for me but I will try them unground to see.Can use them in yogurt or soup.I notice you don't mention something that I always forget.Good luck nothing worse.

Oh thank you! And thanks - I appreciate your experiment over if it works as well in whole seeds, as I don’t have a grinder :)

(I don’t mention something you always forget?! Sorry, I’m being dense!) x
