Breathlessness on Rivaroxaban ??

I have been taking Rivaroxaban for 18 months. I already have a reduced lung capacity due to scoliosis but this seems to have deteriorated over the last 18 months and i wondered if this was either due to because I am getting older & the scoliosis or if it is exacerbated by using Rivaroxaban. I wondered if anyone else had experienced shortness of breath whilst taking it. What has made me wonder is that I had a short break from rivaroxaban recently due to minor surgery and during that time I noticed a significant improvement in my breathing. Or am I putting 2 and 2 together and making 5?

Thanks for any advice / help / comments

Happy Christmas to you all........Debbie

I get breathless, but put it down to reduced lung capacity after clots, and to being slightly (ahem!) overweight.

No I have had no problems with shortness of breath after getting given my treatment with rivaroxaban.

I did have to do a spirometry test where you have to blow into a machine when I went to outpatients a couple of months after I had the pe which wasn't very nice and that was fine and I was in tears of relief when I had been discharged from the chest clinic!

Hi Debbie, I found your post very interesting. I too have been on rivaroxaban for 18 months (after unprovoked bilateral PEs). I too have reduced lung capacity due to scoliosis.

I do suffer from breathlessness, but am unsure if it's due to the PEs, scoliosis or the meds - or a mixture of them all.

Hi

thanks for response. I had spirometry last week as GP is starting from scratch to see what is causing breathlessness as it may be all due to scoliosis and getting older. Spirometry was predicting 38% of capacity and restrictive lung disease which has declined since I was last tested 9 years ago. Unfortunately I think this is largely due to the scoliosis and reduced lung capacity and as we get older the muscles don't help us as much when younger and so I am thinking I just need to get on with it and exercise as much as possible to retain the puff I have but will see what GP says when I go back.

It took a year for slight breathlessness to disappear after my PE, but eventually disappeared.
