Hi All,

I had a D dimer test Friday as I was getting shortness of breath & came back abnormal, so sent up hospital on Saturday morning for further tests, sent home with apixaban blood thinners & back next week for CT scan. Has anyone else experienced this, could it be up because of my surgery 4 weeks ago?

Thanks kerry xx

I had a pulmonary embolism back in December which I suspect started out as a clot in my legs and broke off and travelled.

One day I couldn't breathe so dragged myself into a and e and they were very nice and I was given a ct scan whilst I was there which is nothing to be frightened about and the radiology staff put you at ease and are nice and they put contrast into a vein in your arm to show if there's any problems.

The ct machine itself is like a ringed doughnut and is quite open unlike the mri scans and you can talk to the radiographer if there's problems through an intercom there.

Im on xarelto and find there's no problems on those.

Yes it could be due to your surgery a month ago but clots don't discriminate and can happen to anyone at any age.

Best of luck with your scan!

Thank you for your reply I just want to know if I have a blood clot or not as it was a Saturday they only do CT scans for emergencies only. My mum had them around my age & is on Warfarin now. Hopefully find out this week for sure.

Kind regards

Hey Kezza

I had a raised d dimer which they thought could be due to either a procedure I has the week before or an infection.

On my initial scan they found nothing but part of the system is to 're scan 1 week later, this time they found a clot.

I hope they don't find a clot and you are not happy with the result insist they re scan you, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Let us know how you got on x

Yes. No point in doing d-diners post surgery! You needed a CTPA. did you have a PE?
