I had a DVT 20 months ago following surgery, this then caused a PE. I was treated with Rivaoxiban and told to wear compression stockings for two years which I have done. I go to the gym on a regular basis but dont seem to have the lung capacity I used to have. Does the PE have a longterm effect on your lungs???

Effect of Pulmonary Embolism
I am not sure how it will effect your lungs in the long run as u received treatment at the time of ur PE. I had one that I did not get treated for and my body closed off 1/3 of my right lung. I don't have the lung capacity that I had prior but my oxygen levels have never tested lower then 92%. I feel like I don't get enough air when I am working physically but I know I am as oxygen levels are usually 95%. It may just be something you can build back up in time. Mine was at least 14 years ago. I remember the pain of it but not exactly when it happend. I hope you gets better with time. Good luck! Take care if urself. Sorry I couldn't be of any real help. But I wanted to let u know that without the 2/3rds I feel out of breath but always seem to be getting plenty of oxygen. At least knowing that might help u mentally adjust.
I had an "unprovoked" PE 3 years 1 month and 4 days ago...not that remember that day exactly for any particular reason...lol....prior to that I ran 5 miles/day for 35 years...have never been able to return to either pace or distance and now run 3 miles every other day and 150 flights on a step mill on the odd days...CT-A still shows area of infarcted lung even with collateral circulation to tissue....however, i do notice that my oxygenation ability varies directly with my INR....my target is 2.0-3.0 and when I am above 2.5 I run my better...when I accidentally drift above 3.0 I run even better...I am positive for B2GP & aCL ABs with transient LA...+ I have a prothrombin gene mutation...one day at a time...still have the daily feeling feeling that I am a ticking time bomb but thankful i can do what I do.....
