I wondered if any of you out there could share your stories? What exactly your symptoms were and how you got your diagnosis?
Many thanks

I had sudden collapse, breathlessness and nausea. Fortunately I was in hospital for an unrelated test at the time! My pulmonary embolism was eventually diagnosed with a VQ lung scan (I believe the blood clots may have originated in my pelvis due to a back injury, but this has not been definitely confirmed).
I'm so happy they caught your embolism, I'm sure it was an injury, that's how I got mine...good luck with everyting in the future!!! So crazy to think that none of us on this page would be around right now if it wasn't for some great dr's...
Had one Jan. 2013. Symptoms felt like a brick in the pit of my stomach. Complication as I collapsed with acute kidney failure which was the primary reason for hospital admission. Swollen left leg diagnosed as 'leakage' from the kidneys. Had an ultrasound (doppler) that only did legs so didn't find clot. Discharged once kidneys OK but readmitted when other leg swelled and also buttock area. CT scan detected pelvic clot and the hospital intense treatment for 6 weeks. Now on Warfarin for life. Advice: if suspect a pelvic clot ask for CT. I ended up having a waist down, waist up and head.
So scary...I am so glad they were able to get your kidneys functioning again and find your clot! The miracles of modern medicine, am I right? Good luck with everything!!
I broke my knee. Then before you knew it my leg all of a sudden got super swollen... HUUGGEE. Other than the pain I was always in from my knee I don't remember feeling too bad. But the clot went from my ankle to 4 inches below my aorta so they got as much out as they could over a week. As it tuned out I have what's called May Thurner Syndrome, that means my iliac atery crushed my iliac vein so they put a stent in my iliac vein. Now I just make sure to take my coumadin and its been a while now almost 4 years. It sucks that I have to take blood thinners for the rest of my life. But they work and I'm still here and healthier than alot of people so I am definitely blessed
Awh gosh that sounds horrific. How did they diagnose that you had this? Glad you're feeling well though!
Thank you..me too! Well I guess they discovered the May-Thurner when they couldn't clear that portion of my vein. But the whole clot they saw with an ultrasound. The original trip to the hospital when I broke my knee initially, well.... My knee was giant and without doing so much as an X-ray they shoved my leg into a FLAT leg brace, fresh out of the box. The didn't even bend it. They said I pulled some muscles and would have to see a surgeon. Despite my protests that it was way worse, they sent me on my way. So I waited a week to see the surgeon, when I finally did he did an X-ray and discovered not only had I torn my meniscus and like2 other muscles but my kneecap was broken an I have pieces of it just chillin in my knee. So this guys like well I think we're going to try physical therapy. I'm like I bone floating around in my knee and you want to do physical therapy? It made no sense. So about 4 days later I woke up to find my leg looked like it belonged to a totally new and much larger person. Then I actually went to another hospital thank God and they saved my life. So I wish I had a recourse to sue the original hospital and surgeon but unfortunately it's past the statute of limitations. It just never occurred to me that it was their fault it got so bad until a few years later but que sera sera I never ended up having knee surgery in time it healed and the people who I've known who've had surgery seem to have more pain then I do, except the bone pieces do stab me all suddenly sometimes lol. But I am just happy to still be here. Its scary to think what would happen if I couldn't get my coumadin, but I'm really healthy other than that, and that's all we can do
I had phlebitis in october and it didn't improve. They did regular Doppler scans in october but then said it was fine. I knew it had gone worse in December so I rung the vascular department. They told me to go straight there..... I did and the week before Christmas they found a dvt behind my right knee. It was all go then! Hrt stopped immediately.... bloods taken and ct scan within 24 hours. They found 2 clots on my lungs. I'm only 52 and got to take rivaroxaban for next 6 months. Got ultrasound in 2 days and waiting for haematology appt. I been off sick nearly 3 weeks. Out of breath and sore leg but not ill in myself. Thank god they found dvt and clots.
So glad they found them!! You will be feeling better soon, sending prayer for your speedy recovery
Thank you.x

Hello everyone. I am new to this site and have read all your stories with gasps and also relief to hear you all seem to be making good recovery. It has been 8 days since my diagnoses of a dvt ++ in my pelvis. Can I ask what post hospital care advice you were given i.e. what and what not to do, follow up appt andcrehab excercises/self care etc. Regards, Nina
