Hello, my name is Alyssa and I have been on warfarin for about 4 months due to my blood clot in my left leg. My blood clot goes from my knee to the top of my leg touching my stomach, for anyone who has / had the same or similar problem, do you know how long it takes for the blood clot to completely go away? I'd like to hear some people's story's and advice. Thank you!

Hi, I had a DVT over 30 years ago, due to Hughes syndrome. I am not a doctor but I didn't think it would still be there after being on anticoagulants. I would see your Gp who will help you with this, you must be very anxious and worried to be thinking its still there.

Hi there I got my dvt back in February and my leg still swells and hurts most of the time. The hospital say I prob have post-thrombotic syndrome! They say the clot also might still be there I'm on warfarin too! I'm getting fitted for new compression stockings tomorrow and I'm hoping that will help with the pain. I have sort of accepted that this may affect me for a few years to come which is sad as I lead a very busy life.

I have had exactly the same as you, Alyssa - same leg, knee to groin and it has affected my lower stomach where l have swollen veins. Mine has never gone away, but that is because they discovered that l had an hereditary clotting disorder. They were going to stop my Warfarin after 6 months which is standard treatment, but a doppler scan showed up a blockage.

I had to insist on seeing a specialist as nobody could explain why l had suffered such a bad blood clot. The only advice l can give you is to insist on seeing someone who can explain why you had the clot in the first place and who can advise you about what you should be doing now. Although the treatment l had was excellent and l cannot fault the NHS on that, but l did find that getting information after the initial diagnosis difficult. Please insist on some answers and do let us know how you get on. Lynne

That is a very good point I forgot to leave out some important details, I wasn't diagnosed with factor 5 which is another clotting disorder that is passed down. I certainly hope I don't have those clot forever! I was diagnosed with the dvt about 4 months ago but I was showing symptoms months before hand.

Hi, I had a dvt in June that travelled to my lungs leaving multiple pulmonary embolisms. A recent CT scan (last week) showed that they had all but disappeared. This was after 8 months on 6mg of warfarin. They have left my left lung damaged and I still get pain in both my chest and legs but apparently the clots themselves have gone so it does happen but I'm not sure how or when.
