hello, I’m new here and I was wondering if anyone had any advice/reassurance?
for over a week now I have been having a weird type pain in my left calf. There’s no redness or swelling and the pain is not severe by any means, just a niggling annoying worrying pain.
does this sound like a blood clot? I have huge health anxiety and phobia about dying. I have 5 children so I’m so afraid all the time.
please if anyone can help I’d appreciate it.
I won’t have that dye that goes in to your veins to show up a clot as I have severe phobias if all this x

hi, i was 23 when i first found out i had DVT and multiple bilateral PEs, i never had any swelling or redness, but over months i ended up not being able to walk, by this time they said i was lucky to be alive! Please please please dont let anyone put you off, they put me off due to not having swelling or discolouration, i now suffer with post thrombotic syndrome, which has now affected the colour and size of my calf. Im sure it could be nothing to worry about, but please get checked if you can x
Hi. You should see your GP. Your GP can normally tell by examining you. However, you can ask to be referred for a D-DIMMER blood test, just a simple blood draw. No dye used. Hopefully it is nothing. With regards to the anxiety, maybe consider counselling. Good luck.
Your doctor should order a dopler which is an ultrasound of your leg. There is absolutely no dye and it is very safe and painless. My first DVT was diagnosed with the dopler and it was in my popliteal vein....pretty serious. Was put on warfarin right away and stayed on it for three months until the DVT recanalyzed (dried up). Am now under care of vascular doctor. Had DVT three more times in same leg and was finally diagnosed with APS and FACTOR V LEIDEN. A m now on warfarin for life. I now see the vascular dr. every 6 mths with dopler being done to make sure no DVT.
If you are worried make an appointment to see your GP and they will put you at ease.
They will do a blood test to see if there has been a clot called. D dimer test and if its positive will send you for a doppler ultrasound which doesn't hurt and the technicians will put you at ease.
I think you got muddled with the CT scan which is where they give you an injection of contrast dye to see the blood vessels in your lungs.
Hi Jade, you have posted on this very niche forum, are you on anticoagulants or antiplatelet medication? If yes, this could be a common side effect of the medication.
6 weeks ago I switched from Clopidogrel (antiplatelet post stroke medication) to Edoxaban (anticoagulant medication following detection of AF).
Within days and for the first week I had very specific pains in both calf muscles. This has subsided. I do feel hydration and peeing levels have changed a bit since the change, I have to drink a bit more, and of course it's summer too so hydration should be increased.
However and regardless of what I have said you should check with your GP.
I can't offer any advice regarding your phobic responses but you know it's important not to let this limit your access to the care you need.
