UNSTABLE I.N.R.

Due to me having diabetes and prescribed Warfarin for over 4 years the clinic has now also prescribed Sitagliptin ( Januvia) to try and reduce my levels of 8.0.Since being prescribed the Januvia my I.N.R. levels have fallen to 1.7 after being stable-2.3-for over a year.I've told my GP that I'm more concerned about my I.N.R. levels than the diabetes levels, because of the 2 strokes I had 6 years ago,but this has fallen on deaf ears.GP says my diabetes HAS to be controlled but doesn't understand my fears of possible??stroke due to reduced I.N.R .Can anyone please offer any suggestions.

Hi yes INR levels as you know already are very important 1.7 is not good enough, have you spoken to your anticoagulant clinic perhaps your warfarin needs to be increased..

Hope you manage to get it sorted out soon.

Hi,had a word with my G.P. re concerns about low INR and demanded this is addressed as a matter of urgency.Hey presto-now increase of warfarin and levels back to 2.4 .Also have just discovered that it is a computer and not a GP that dictates the doseage of my warfarin after every blood check but does this take into account all the medication I am on when defining the results ???

Hi there why don't you ask your consultant to put you on a anticoagulant drug called rivaroxaban, you don't need your inr checked at all,I myself have been on this drug for well over a year now and have had no problems what so ever, were as when I was on warfarin I was clotting all the time and my inr was all over the place, plus I'm a diabetic also and have suffered a TIA but with being on the rivaroxaban I was medicated for it so it was just a matter of resting up and taking it easy for a while, I hope this advice helps you and good luck....jimbo..
