I take Apixaban and have just been prescribed Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) to reduce my cholesterol which has increased from 5.3 to 7.7. However, I am concerned that one of the warnings on the leaflet is about taking this drug when one is taking an anti-coagulant. Does anyone have any information about this, please? The GP who prescribed this is very anti being questioned! I am going to ask the pharmacist when I go for my next prescription, but wondered if anyone knew anything, please?

There is now masses of evidence that high cholesterol as such is not bad for you - a whole industry thing has been built up on prescribing unnecessary statins.
Do you have access to your blood test results? Divide triglycerides by HDL - if it's less than 3 you have nice large fluffy "bad" LDL which isn't bad at all!
Thank you for your advice. I have recently (over the last couple of months) developed a swelling in my throat and have an appointment with the GP on Tuesday to ask about this. Will also ask for my results. However, someone has suggested an under-active thyroid, so I accessed the NHS site and low-and-behold one of the symptoms is raised cholesterol levels. i was at a loss as to why the level had raised. Plus, I have quite a few of the other symptoms. Will have to be careful in discussion with the GP so he doesn't get the impression that I am teaching him his job!
Hiya, my cholesterol has jumped right up aswell, I was on apixaban but failed and back on injections but I've always had OK cholesterol and now told its too high
Please do some research on this - high cholesterol is not a problem - it just feeds a massive statins industry which has convinced people (including unfortunately GPs and many (funded) "Learned Bodies").
Thank you. I am undergoing further tests which may indicate why my readings have increased. However, the problem with not taking any type of medication once it has been recommended / prescribed, is the risk averse Travel Insurance companies. They will not cover one if you are not taking your prescribed meds. What do you do, pick up the prescription and don't take the medication? Could this be construed as "fraud". It is a blinking mine-field.
