I saw that they used the ethyl ester form in a few studies, but some of the doctors I talked to said something like, you can use EPA/DHA supplements in triglyceride form, it won't have a direct effect, what do you use?

What form of omega 3 supplement?

Im using the Super Omega-3 supplement from Life Extension. Ive read in a study that people with ALD have decreased levels of omega-3 acids and vitamin E. Im not taking it daily but i think its beneficial for me, took it for a while now with breaks
I take the ethyl ester form but your post got me thinking. This page on healthline has enlightened me.

Presumably the estyl ester form is just more convenient and easier to obtain higher doses for clinical purposes?
I might try taking Krill Oil instead. Triglyceride form is better absorbed so you potentially need fewer mg’s of EPA/DHA.
I was using the ethyl ester form, but a few doctors who were knowledgeable about ALD said that the triglyceride form of the omega 3 supplement I used would not directly affect VLCFAs and that I could use the triglyceride form. I switched to the triglyceride form because it was better absorbed and more natural.
