After a fall

hi everyone, I had a fall two weeks ago, I fell off the commode while transferring. I'm in hospital but didn't break anything. But I did have a chest infection when admitted. My body reacted by going into crisis mode. I'm having really bad spasms which I can't control. Has anyone ever had these problems?

Hi Hilary

That sounds like a nasty incident and I am very sorry that you have suffered with the outcome you describe.

My own experience with accidents like this when you have AMN is very similar.

(I broke my femur five years ago. Weeks in hospital. Then, in a separate incident, spent 2 weeks in hospital after an emergency asthma diagnosis. A year later, sepsis from a UTI, 2 days in hospital.)

What I deduce is that even what would be a small upset for someone with a normal nervous system, is, for us with AMN, a fairly major trauma. I found that even the small amount of walking I did became difficult to impossible. This can last for days or weeks.

Your extra spasms are just part of this

It's not surprising when you think about it. The nervous system just gets messed up with the trauma you suffered. Trauma sounds excessive but that's what it is.

But things do recover. Take heart. Things will pass.

All the best,

Chris

Thanks Chris, Truman is a good description, I am on the Truma and orthopaedic ward.

No one has a clue about AMN, I've been here two weeks now and I'm trying to educate them. I'm seeing a medical Dr later today so fingers crossed I get some help

Hi Tom, I remember you well from a few years ago when we last were in touch. I am pleased you are still mobile with a cane, and able to make a long trip to Austraila.

I am well, but can only shuffle with a walking frame, but otherwise in good health.

All good wishes, Chris

I'm so sorry to hear you are in hospital Hillary. I had very bad spasms when I had my bad fall in 2000 and ended up in hospital.

My pregablin didn't work very well on the spasms.

It eventually calmed down but I think it took about 4 weeks.

Xxx

Hi Cherie, sorry to hear that you had similar problems too. My spasms are the worst I've ever had. The pain in the muscles which are in spasm, and is radiating to my knee and hip is awful. It's two weeks since I fell so only another two weeks to go 🤣

I hope your ok at present, take care x
