Viagra, dementia, brain health.

Who here takes Viagra? Hardly a badge of shame, is it? I know a few of us have posted about it helping with everything, except the orgasm. My young nephew. Healthy, bodybuilder. Him and friends down the gym are all taking it. Kids, eh? The future is safe with them.

Anyway, before Christmas I was taking quite a lot and I thought I'd better check about long-term health implications. I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

Viagra may be useful against Alzheimer's dementia

Cleveland Clinic Research Identifies Sildenafil as Candidate Drug for Alzheimer’s Disease

Viagra associated with reduced risk of Alzheimer’s disease

nih.gov/news-events/nih-res...

"people (mostly men) who took sildenafil were 69% less likely to develop AD over 6 years than those who did not take the drug"

I assumed that it was simply increasing cerebral blood flow, but no. Here is the quote:

"Exposing the (brain) cells to sildenafil led to increased growth of neurites, which connect neurons to each other, and decreased tau phosphorylation, an early biomarker of AD."

I take my brain health seriously. Off all the joys of this disease of ours I don't be needing dementia. Obviously, no one does. But us lot should take prevention a lot more seriously.

Obviously, the kind of dementia that can afflict us lot isn't Alzheimer's but I'll take any hope that's on offer. That and cutting down on trans-fats, stop smoking, go easy on the booze, don't vegetate in front of crap TV shows, learn new things. Still working on the regular exercise. I'll get back to you on that.

I am focussing more on natural anti-aging brain enhancing and mitochondrial growth things these days. I’ve been obsessively researching and starting to take something called NMN, which is a precursor to NAD+. It’s pretty fantastic stuff. It’s being studied and found that a lot of these age related diseases we see could be prevented. Not that we have an age related disease, but we kind of do in a way. So this is my being a lab rat experiment.

I am with you 100%. I've said before as well how I believe our disease to be a form of premature aging (sort of).

It is also a result if Viagra has the side effect of staving off dementia.
