Helping the mitochondria helping us

Hello, like many of you I’m always trying to find new ways… I find the mitochondria fascinating (and therefore their involvement in ALD 😒). Years ago I considered taking MitoQ (a more effective version of the supplement CoQ10) but at £2 a day needed some more thinking…

The research is there, an example:

Wonder if anyone has tried it?

I tried it for one month (couldn’t afford more) and I think it may have contributed to more migraines (but most supplements do that for me).

I will follow this to see if anyone else has any benefits. I consider trying again…

I looked into MitoQ a couple different times and decided not to take it.

As you point out it's very expensive. It's even more expensive when you see that the dose they're selling you is actually a relatively low dose. The commercial bottles of MitoQ suggest a dose of 10mg per day. A study of Mito Q in parkinson's disease, however, gave patients doses of either 40mg or 80mg per day. Presumably they decided that those doses might be required to show an effect (and in fact no benefit was observed). The same dosages (40 and 80mg) were used in a hepatitis C study. Another study of MitoQ and cardiovascular disease used does of 20mg per day. It seems like they probably know that doses of 10mg per day might not have much of an effect.

Also, any adverse effects are largely unknown. MitoQ is a synthetic molecule, whereas CoQ10 does exist in nature. That's not to say that all new compounds are dangerous, but it seems like the would require significantly more testing, and it does not seem like there has been extensive human testing of MitoQ. One study showed MitoQ might have adverse effects on the kidneys. physoc.onlinelibrary.wiley....

I would be interested to hear if others have a different take
