Gabapentin & Pregabalin

My wife ran across this. So far this and Baclofen are the only drugs that have been prescribed for me. As if we don’t have enough problems.

This sounds pretty alarmist. When I read the quote, "...these drugs will cause brain decline faster than any substance known to mankind", I got the feeling this might be a little overblown. I've taken both gabapentin and Lyrica in the past, in an attempt to help with neuropathic pain, and got up to high dosages of both. Unfortunately, they didn't help with pain at all, but they also didn't give me any bad side effects. I know some who say that one or the other makes them feel extremely groggy or stoned - I didn't experience that. I suppose every prescription drug has risks associated with it. But if they truly help someone (again, in my case, they didn't), I don't see any problem with it.

I had been taking Gabapentin but have stopped taking it after 15 years to switch to a more medication free lifestyle.

I am pretty sure their is a website for anything we consume that claims those things will kill us.

Taking this one with a grain of salt until a reputable study is done.

Most of these sites involve lawyers trying to build hype for class action lawsuits based on a sketchy and anecdotal evidence.

I've also heard of this and the consequence is a risk of dementia and Alzheimer's. Unfortunately, this drug along with Venlafaxine helps curb my nerve pain. But now, I'm thinking I might be receiving benefit from the Min-102 trial and thinking of gradually withdrawing from both. Note: I'm only taking 1200 m.g. of Gabapentin. Before, I was taking up to 2100 m.g.

Study pinpoints key mechanism in brain development, raising questions about use of antiseizure drug

Only scientific study I could find, and that's about pregnant women. Gabapentin and Lyrica are phenomenal drugs. Take enough, I hallucinate like hell. But what about booze and other recreational drugs? Plenty of damage done there.

I'm not worried, when I was a kid, gasoline was full of lead. God knows what that did to my young brain. If any of you have read the book Freakonomics, they posit that violent crime went down after leaded gas was phased out.

No Gabapentin = no sleep for me, and there's a real link between a lack of sleep and Alzheimer’s.

We are all doomed.

Thank you all for the input. It eases my mind greatly. I don’t know what life for me would be like without Gabapentin. Was hoping for everyone’s input is why I posted it. I’m still new to the AMN life and value your veteran input.
