Adrenal/Addisons in females.

I have just been diagnosed with Adrenal insufficiency - 300nmol/l and am now on 10mg,5mg,5mg of hydrocortisone.

Luckily I have had regular checks for the past 10 years so this was picked up quickly. I didn't really have any symptoms although I felt tired at times, but thought it was just the disease.

I would just like to say to all our female carriers that you should go and get regular checkups. I never thought this would happen to me.

Hi Cheri,

Sorry to hear this! Don't be too worried, it's not knowing is the problem! You just need to remember to take extra hydrocortisone is you feel unwell I take 3 or 4 times the dose if I feel ill! Also see your GP for a injection kit! 

I'd been interested to hear what the doctors say at the ALDLife weekend as when I've asked about this they've said that females don't get it and it would be very rare?

Hi Steve. I would be very interested to hear what they say and that is one of the reasons I put it up on here before the weekend . I had a few problems with getting the injection solution from my GP but Churchill Hospital rang and I now have it. What do you have in your kit?

I have Dexamethasone, it's got to be kept in the fridge which is a pain when going away!

With the Hydrocostisone I take 10mg as soon as I get up, I take 5mg at 1pm and I take 5mg at 4pm my endocrinologist said to take the last dose no later than 5pm as the body normally doesn't make any after this time? 

I've been taken them since December 2002 it's just replacing what's not being made!

I have the same dosage and take it at the same time except the last one of the day which I was told to take before 6pm.  I don't have to keep it in the fridge only less than 25°. And is called Hydrocortisone solution - to be administered by a GP or nurse.

Sorry to hear your news, I thought women didn't get this so would be interested also Steven if you can find out as I have never been tested.
