I'm new to it all (5 months of sudden, extreme hair loss, 65% of hair gone) and looking for advice and support as I'm finding it very hard to come to terms with. Saw a private derm who suggested a biopsy - would people recommend it? I'd have to pay for it but if it could help me I will do it as I'm feeling desperate.
Also, does Regaine make you lose more hair and if so, does it then grow back?
btw, derm thinks I have andogenic alopecia or possibly telogen effluvium.
Thanks for reading!

The biopsy can confirm type of alopecia. Many people use rogaine. It can work for some though not for others. I would also try and get a referral with a dermatologist who specialises in hair loss via your GP if possible. But also if on facebook do use the Alopecia UK facebook groups. Check out their website for information and support help avaialble generally.
Thanks for your post paw1. I've always resisted facebook but may join just for the Alopecia UK group. I have an appointment with an NHS derm but hair may all have gone by then if it carries on how it is at the moment.
Sudden hair loss can be Alopecia by itself. I had literally two months and went to Alopecia Universalis. I don’t know whether a biopsy would be needed unless you are experiencing other symptoms such as scabs/rashes (e.g, ‘scarring’ alopecia). Ask your GP and get a referral to a dermatologist. If you ever require a wig or hair system. I wouldn’t use any supplier on the Alopecia UK website. They are all well aware they have ‘partnered’ , charge ridiculous prices and most, low quality products. I hope you have a spontaneous remission and it is temporary!
