I'm currently 6 months pregnant and when I was 2 months, my hairdresser noticed a bald spot on my head. That bald spot turned out to become alopecia areata - in the next few months I've lost almost all of my hair and I'm now starting to loose my eyebrows and eyelashes, assuming it will become alopecia universalis. I also have Hashimoto's, which is under control now, during pregnancy.
Is there anybody else that was diagnosed with alopecia during pregnancy? What happened after the birth, did it get better? Can it get better after giving birth?
Many thanks in advance!
xx

Hi Flowerflower , welcome to the group. I'm sorry to hear about your hair loss. I'm afraid im not able to give much advise in the way of peer support around pregnancy. although i am aware from others that their pregnancy has affected their alopecia in a multitude of ways. I just wanted to signpost you towards our other online group which is hosted on Facebook - facebook.com/groups/Alopeci...
It's a lot more active than this group with nearly 8,000 members and news posts and comments daily. If you're wishing to hear from others about their experiences i would recommend joining that group instead.
I also have hashimoto's and my alopecia start sounds much the same as yours, however I am in my sixties. 4 doctors have told me the hair rarely returns when the loss is at my age, so that makes me think that it will return to a younger person like you. I pray that your hair loss is your immune system response to pregnancy and I'll bet when the hormones settle back to norm post pregnancy your hair may return
I replied previously, but neglected to mention with all 4 of my pregnancies I lost large clumps of hair throughout my scalp in the months following the births. Each time my hair did grow back. I feel you have a very good chance of your hair returning
