Had alopecia areata for a little over 18 mths now, male 44 yrs old BTW - currently an OP for this, on steroids consultant said something about immunotherapy afterwards. Front of head (at the moment) looks OK (ish).
The cream hasn't worked, been four weeks and the patch on the crown, left side of head has increased down the right hand side. Been reading about immunotherapy, and the chance of side effects (mainly vitiligo) so I don't think I'll take that option.
Which leaves the nuclear option, get rid of it - thing is I don't think that would suit, but then again I don't have any other choice, aside from waiting and hoping for reversal.
So the question is, when do you decide to completely remove everything ?

Good for you. I have been battling with the decision to go bald but keep backing down in the hope that other remedies help. I recently went to the Gp who provided Betacap (a steriod) and I have been seeing growth, coming to the end of week 2. I have had hair loss for the last 10 years thanks to a hairdresser.
