Hi there, I am 24 years old male and losing hairs from last 4 years. Earlier it was not that aggressive, but from last 2 years, it is not slowing down. I am have been using minoxidil for 1 year on and off, but from last August 2015, I started using minoxidil and finastride constantly everyday, like a religious habit. But my hair loss is not slowing down, rather it increased. Last November my iron levels (Ferritin ) was 19 and B12 was 250. Then from Jan to till today, I constantly took iron supplements.three months ago Fe levels were 44. what could be the reason for hair loss. In my family no body is bald, from my father side. From my mother side, I never saw my grandpa but all my uncles have full head of hairs. Why is it happening to me. I also feel very tired all the time. Iron cann't be the reason, as I am on supplements already. What do you think? Further my hairs are very fine and i am loosing hairs from all over head. No bald patches on crown so far, just receded hair line. thanks in advance. Can post photos if needed.

Hi Wolf_Teen,

Firstly I would recommend you go to see your GP and ask for a referral to a dermatologist.

With any type of hair loss, we search for answers and it can be exhausting. There are still so many unknowns but a dermatologist should be able to advise on what is happening.

If it is androgenetic alopecia, there is no evidence it's caused by a deficiency of iron. It's caused by a combination of genetic and hormonal factors. With regards to looking for others in your family with baldness, I understand it's possible to carry the androgenetic alopecia gene but manifest the condition.

I'm sorry you find yourself in this position. It's difficult if things we try do not stop the hair loss. Unfortunately this is the case for many. In all types of alopecia, there is not a single treatment that is guaranteed to work. With alopecia, there are no guarantees. It's what makes it such a frustrating thing to go through.

Support from others can help. If you find yourself struggling, consider getting along to one of Alopecia UK's support groups.

Not sure if this helps much. Wish I had more I could say.

your b12 is way too low should be high normal...your ferritin is too..did you only take one iron pill a day..did you try iron gylnate with vitamin c and lysine all taken at the same time, did you test your d3 ,, has anyone checked your cortisol levels bec that can cause it, and has anyone checked your dht and testosterone levels..hence that needs to be checked. and bad digestion and not absorbing minerals and vitamins can cause it...

Alopecia UK is a great resource, with lots of local support groups.

Should you seek to camouflage the hair loss at any stage we'd be happy to discuss this with you. Scalp Micropigmentation is a good option as it does not inhibit re-growth.
