gastrointestinal issues and anticoagulants

Since Autumn last year I changed from Rivaroxaban to Apixaban which I understood to have a marginally safer profile. I have, however noted a greater degree of indigestion and gas which is hard to shift and acts as a trigger to my AF. I wondered if anyone else has encountered such symptoms. I do also note that it also seems to be more prevalent following an anxious and stressful period.

I found the one you are on came with constipation after the first one came with the opposite! Now that Flecainide, taken regularly, has virtually put an end to episodes of AF for me, I no longer take an anticoagulant, but that too comes with digestive problems, as “rare side effects”! The drug companies seem keen to increase sales!

A lot of changes pushed on patients as the patent in the UK has recently come off (ie price drop) Riveroxaban & Apixaban but not Edoxaban. I am on Edox and intend to resist change as I have enough health concerns/anxiety without creating more potential!

I have been on apixaban for almost 5 years and my digestion is not what it used to be. I get a lot of wind especially in the evening and flip between constipation and diarrhea. I am unsure if it's the apixaban or the Sotalol but suspect the apixaban. I just put up with it

similar to karendeena. Have a lot of constipation and rectal bleeding. A recent colonoscopy showed only polyps and haemorrhoids. I suspect problems are partly due to Apixaban but consultant was not sure.

Hi, had about two years of Apaxiban with no real problems, bruised a lot, nosebleeds but I bled well without DO AC’s..Have had Omeprazole for over twenty years so no gastric problems. Arrhythmia persist but I have learnt to live with it but use Relaxation as a control if it gets out of hand. Now alcohol free, but I can’t do without Coffee. Try to find a good Community Psychiatric Nurse who can teach Relaxation techniques in about an hour. Works wonders all round. Good luck,Mick 7473.
