Anticoagulants and inflammation.

Hi. Does anyone know if anti coagulants can prolong healing. I had a cystoscopy 10 days ago and am still experiencing bladder pain, worse in the evenings which to me suggest that with rest overnight it heals a bit then worse after exercise during the day.

I’m on edoxaban

Don’t know for certain, but would have thought it was fairly unlikely. I’m sure you would have said if there was any evidence of bleeding so the only advice I can offer is to discuss this with your doctor or the hospital where you had the procedure.....hope things improve for you soon.

I heal quickly on anticoagulants but after surgery recently a lot of bruising. I found that late afternoon I needed to take paracetamol for longer than expected. I'm sure you will be drinking plenty. We all experience pain differently and are definitelu more aware of it when more tired.

Unless you have had a cystoscopy in the past prior to edoxaban it's difficult for you to know if this is just normal for you.

Always worth checking with GP if it's worrying you. If you were given a leaflet suggesting all should be well by now this may muddy the water also, as we are all different and if you are concerned this won't help either

I take Apixaban and I definitely heal in a completely different way since taking it. I am active with DIY and gardening and I notice this with cuts and abrasions. Where a cut would heal in 2 or 3 days it now takes over a week. Not only that it seems to heal without making a proper scab so the wound stays "wet" for a long time. I understand it is something to do with "collagen scaffolds" which form differently when the blood is deprived of its full quota of coagulant, I could be wrong on this but I know I don't heal like before.

Thanks, I agree with you about scratches and cuts. I spend a lot of my life outdoors and always have something trying to heal. Thinking about this, I had a bad insect bite that took weeks to fade when normally it would be gone on a few days. So perhaps healing does take longer even if there is no actual bleeding involved.

I find bruises on legs take forever to go but that's partly due to bad circulation.

It could possibly be a bladder infection as it is definitely known that a cystoscopy can cause this. I (although not medical) would go to your gp and have a urine check as o very much doubt if it is to do with you anti coagulant. Get well soon
