I fell and hurt my back. I wondered if I could use a Tens machine. I'm not sure if it's safe with AF. Has anyone used one with AF?

Tens machine.

Frequently asked question - very mixed views - my view is that if it is your lower back then it is probably ok but you might want to check with your doctor. If you have a Tens machine then read the instruction leaflet. I would avoid using around the neck area and upper thorax area is good practice. I’ve never used one but if I did have pain that I couldn’t relieve with physio and stretching it is something I would try - rather than use meds.
If you put ‘Tens’ in the search box you will find previous threads.
I think it's fine to use, I am a therapist assistant and we used them and there were no contradictions in college with my physio teacher. I would suggest Shockwave therapy as it is proven to heal things and pain management. I have treated many people and I have had success with it .
I think your reply is directed to the OP rather than myself.
Personally I deal with back pain through my osteopath and rehab with a physio as my issues have been all soft tissue. How does shockwave therapy go with osteoporosis?
It can increase bone mineral density. It is great for everything but pregnancy or medical devices you have to avoid. It increases healing time as it promotes deep cell regeneration and increased circulation, it is expensive but it is the best thing out there . It is being used for rehab after surgery as well. Many settings and heads to accommodate comfort. Please let me know if you have any questions.
I believe your assumption is considerable.
I’ve been diagnosed with thoracic kyphosis after experiencing terrible upper right back pain below spatula. Either epidural injection , or lidocaine patches didn’t help.I tried chiropractor with hesitation for AFIB triggered.I think he used TENS as well .It didn’t help to subside the pain. But my paroxysmal Afib came the next day . Perhaps just accidentally.🤔
Yes, I believe the stretches exercise and physiotherapy are the only resort available for older patients in order to avoid the drugs !!
By the way , cold pad is helping temporally.
I have used a TENS Machine but only for mild pain in both shoulders (at different times and on different occasions). I have an AF diagnosis but was not in AF on any occasion that I used the TENS.
TBH, I wouldn't waste my time or money on this treatment ........ I'd find myself an Osteopath and get a proper diagnosis. Pain is a weird animal in terms of back injuries. Pain can transfer it location/site and give misleading feelings. E.G. it might feel its coming from the lower spine but could in fact be coming from either Si Joint.
Unfortunately you don't say exactly where your back pain is coming from so its a bit hard to say.
Yes I have used a TENS machine many times to treat my lower back. No problems encountered. Good luck.
I was emphatically told by my electrophysiologist to not use one, but I believe it is because I have a pacemaker.
Thank you all for your replies. I have used the Tens machine and had no problems.
I'm on my 3rd tens unit. I've used them for decades. It's good to use in combination with other therapies like a foam rolling, deep tissue massage, Somatics nuro - muscular re-education. I've had a lot of crashes mountain biking, roller blading, snow boarding. From my expierence your muscles sieze hard immediatly after some trauma. It takes a couple of days before the cool down and you can make head way with therapy. If you can't see a proffessional therapist watch several youtube videos on using a tens unit for back pain. good luck
Hi
The physiotherapist gave me their old tens machine.
I use it for bladder stimulation, 2 areas. Down above the ankle one higher than other.
And above dimples on either side of buttocks -high.
You start low and put it where it is comfortable.
