Since estrogen causes blood to become thicker, I cannot take it with my Eliquis. What should I do to replace the estrogen?

Estrogen and Eliquis

I would suggest that you talk to your Pharmacist for advice but I believe you can take both.
My understanding is that Estrogen does not ‘thicken’ blood but does increase the risk of clotting and developing DVTs. My guess - reading your profile - is that you are taking HRT.
There are some times when one has to decide highest immediate risk to health and adjust our meds accordingly however expert advice should be sought for your individual circumstances.
I haven’t heard of estrogen thickening the blood, please can I ask where you have heard this information, as there is a lot of misinformation out there regarding HRT. As CDreamer mentions, estrogen can slightly increase the risk of blood clots, but this is only when taking orally and even then the risk is small. Latest research shows there are no risks of blood clots if estrogen is transdermal.
That’s interesting . I take HRT and Edoxaban and have no intention of stopping. Oestrogen does not “make the blood thicker” Certainly preparations can increase the tendency to clot in some people . Transdermal preparations are best
do you really need estrogen?? I don’t know about now, but when hrt first came out it was known to cause blood clots. With afib anticoagulants are so very important to avoid a stroke
All the best
With HRT, all the research that they still refer to was done many, many years ago now and the outcomes have proven not to be the case anymore, yet they still refer to them. You are right, blood clots were initially thought to be a risk. There’s a big push on the governing bodies, especially in the UK and US to remove them and publish the latest data on HRT, which gives a very different story now. No risks with transdermal HRT and also HRT has come a long way now with differing preperations and some/most being body identical.
I could elaborate on why estrogen is beneficial to us, but aware it’s an Afib forum, so I’ll hold back 😊
Yes you are no doubt right especially as I’m 81 this year and out of the loop as my grandchildren would say, but I do know that a work colleague who is a lot younger than me and a few friends all had blood clots taking HRT and had to stop. I’m glad that it is ok now, but I personally wouldn’t take it although I had a hysterectomy at 38 so never had a menopause so didn’t have to thankfully suffer like some people apparently do.
Best wishes
Hi Tapinac
There is a small risk with blood clots if taking oral HRT, which unfortunately is what GPs usually prescribe initially as it’s the cheapest form of HRT and they had been doing so for many years. It’s only been in the last ten years, even less, than more women are investigating for themselves and demanding better quality and transdermal and other preparations. There are no risks with transdermal, so I can only imagine they must have been on oral perhaps, or perhaps it wasn’t even connected to their HRT, I suppose we’ll never know.
