I have been on edoxaban for a month now and recently noticed some not fresh blood in my ejaculate, of course I am seeing my doctor about this as prostate cancer is the worry. however I had a psa of 1.5 which is pretty low for my age ( 68 ) and no other indicators in particular . I wondered if anyone had any experiences of this nature ?

Regards Michael

My husband had the same thing occur many years ago. His doctor was not concerned. It only happened once or twice and from memory, he was told to leave it for a few days. He wasn’t on thinners back then.

My husband has also been diagnosed with prostrate cancer (lowest grade with life expectancy of 20+ years) but it is totally unrelated to the blood in his ejaculate all those years ago. He also has had an ablation for AF.

PSA readings are taken over time - much like BP, a one off reading doesn’t mean much. Your PSA can increase for many reasons including when you have an infection in your body or a recent virus. Your PSA reading is very normal.

My husband is the same age as you and has been monitored for many years as his father died of prostate cancer when in his 60s. His brother has his prostate removed as he was also discovered to have a high grade cancer and had not been monitored like my husband so it wasn’t caught early. A family history is the biggest determinant of prostate cancer. My husband’s PSA goes up and down. He’s tested every 6 months. His urologist said she is looking for an overall increase in PSA, not individual readings.

I hope this info helps reassure you a little.

It happened to me a year ago (I am 61, not on ACs) . I reported it to the GP who arranged for a cystoscopy (look it up, if you've had one you won't need to :-) and the urologist dismissed it as just one of those things! I also had a PSA test then which was ok. Of course the problem is that 'then' it may have been nothing, but next time it may be indicative of something else. I'd get it checked out if I were you. I have no direct experience of this but heard from a neighbour who has had it. Apparently it is fairly common and not by any means a definite sign of anything sinister. Is your urine free of blood? You will have a few tests, but my money is on all being well.
