Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had experience of Edoxaban?

Three weeks ago I was put on Edoxaban 60mg per day. Since then, in addition to near constant daily headaches, I have had felt incredibly tired and lifeless.

The only reason I was put on Edoxaban was to protect me against the risk of a stroke. (I have PAF and am in my late 60’s and often holiday in remote islands in the Far East).

I am thinking of speaking to my EP about getting reduced to 3mg or another coagulant.

Has anyone had any experience whether 30mg could still be effective to reduce the risk of a stroke or of other coagulants and side effects?

There are another three DOACs you could try plus warfarin which you would not want due to your life style so plenty of choice. Reducing the dose does not work by the way. I think one of the other DOACs has a reduced dose for people with kidney issues or below a (very low) weight .

Hi, I changed from warfarin to edoxaban about a year ago and it’s been brilliant for me. No side effects and the nausea I sometimes used to have has completely stopped so was clearly down to the warfarin. I also love not having to go for INRs all the time! But if it doesn’t suit you there are other equivalents you could try. Don’t think reducing the dosage is possible for it to work efficiently. But talk to your doctor about trying a different one.

Thank-you john6 and jholl for your replies. I'm seeing my EP to discuss the best way forward. He certainly thought that Edoxaban had fewer side effects than most and I'll discuss your helpful comments and suggestions with him. Thanks for your help.

Thank-you for your replies. I thought it might be helpful to post the EP advice and follow up.

As Bob D said, there is no evidence that the reduced dose gives the protection against a stroke, so I was changed from Edoxaban to Apixaban and am now on day 5 and have none of the extreme tiredness I was getting from the Edoxaban. 👍🏼.

The EP was a little surprised that I had the side effects on Edoxaban that most people do well with but noted that alternative anti-coagulants are a different molecule and often the side effects don’t occur. For someone else Edoxaban could work better than Apixaban.

In my case the change has worked well.

Interesting and encouraging to read the collective knowledge in this group, as I have seen in the replies. 😁
