Lixiana/Edoxaban.......

Hi all and I hope you are all safe and well during these uncertain times we are in.

I've just been prescribed a drug called Lixiana /Edoxaban and am terrified to start taking it as I have visions off bleeding from every orifice! According to the 'please read this sheet of information, it is common for people to bleed from eyes, nose, ears etc....common!!

I definitely don't want this and wondered if any of you guys out there in AFshire have taken or are taking this drug.

I've been on Flacainide and Bisoprolol for a few years now and I also take Exemastane (breast cancer in 2015).

I need some reassurance so I hope someone has some info on this.

Edoxaban is an anticoagulant to help proterct you form AF related stroke. sadly many people refer to these diugs as " blood thinners" which makes people think that they will bleed spontaneously. You won't!

If you injure youreslf you may bleed for a little longer than before as clotting time is increased but bleeding for no reason--- Not at all.!

Some people who have a history of nose bleeds may experience more and if you have even the beginnings or gum problems you may find those may bleed occasionally . Frankly I ad more problems with aspirin!

I have been on warfarin (the first easily prescibed anticoagulant) for over 15 years and despite working with tools and other sharp things have never needed any kind of inervention other than normal first aid.

Do hope you were reassured enough to take the anti coag drug. I take apixaban and every time I take it I tell myself it’s preventing me from having a stroke. I find that helps any fear.

It's pretty normal to be worried when starting new med's Blue.

I've been on an anticoagulant for yokes - no problems at all. I'm sure you'll be fine so try to worry

Cheers, yes I'd much prefer the blood to stay where it is!!

I'll start taking this at teatime when I take the rest of my evening cocktail of meds.

I have been on Edoxaban for 3 years, swapped from Warfarin, and had no issues with either. When I cut myself my blood looks and flows the same as it always did, may take a little longer sometimes to stop bleed, depends where the wound is. You should have no worries.

Hi. I have been on Lixiana for nearly 3 months since being diagnosed with A fib. I have had no side effects and no problems with bleeding at all. I hope you are reassured by all the replies you have to your post.

I was also changed from Warfarin to Edoxaban some months ago with no ill effects but huge relief, particularly at this time, not to have to be going into the GP for INR blood tests, in some cases weekly. Go for it

Hi been on Edoxaban for quite a few years now, no side effects and definitely no excess bleeding. Sometimes I wonder if the blurb in the packets of tablets is over exaggerated!

Hello, I have been taking Edoxaban for a few years now and everything has been fine. The only thing I notice is if I cut myself I bleed a little longer than I used to.

I have been on warfarin then Dabigatran and now Edoxaban. I do have fairly frequent nose bleeds and occasional red eye but I have always been prone to that and only once did I end up having to go to hospital in 10 years. I am just so grateful that my chances of a stroke are less. I am 67 and my nan died of a stroke when she was 62, undiagnosed AF.

Hi Nikon blue I was diagnosed in January been on Lixiana Edoxaban since then and I personally haven,t had any problems regards bleeding so don,t worry too much regards Stephen

I am on Apixaban. I have just had Mohs surgery for basal cell carcinoma (cancer) at the tip of my nose. To repair the hole, the chunk taken out at the tip, a side slit had to be made and the skin pulled down to cover the hole. Then the skin had to be stitched from between my eyebrows, along the side of the nose to the tip. That was two weeks ago. Yes, there was a little more bleeding, and a few stitch sections are taking longer to heal. But, all is absolutely fine. There was no bleeding to be concerned about at all.
