Thank you to the kind person who gave me the telephone number for Coventry and Warks Hospital (sorry I can't remember who it was and I jumped on someone else's post). As I said in my follow up, I wasn't officially on their waiting list because they hadn't received a referral! However, I have just received an appointment for cardiac pre-assessment on 26th Feb so as I also received leaflets about AV Node ablation I'm assuming that will go ahead shortly after. Interestingly the appointment is for Worcester, which is my local hospital and where I had my PM fitted in May. Does anyone have any idea how long I'll wait between pre-assessment and the actual ablation? I'm still confused as to why I was told I'd been transferred to Coventry and it's still showing on my NHS app that I'm on their waiting list. Anyway, I'm pleased. I'm unusual in that I have not previously had an ablation only a cardioversion (Atypical atrial flutter) can anyone give me guidance on recovery time, please?

AV node ablation is quite different to that for atrial fibrillation or svt. Obviously the groin wound needs careful treatment post procedure and you should rest as much as possible for at least a week or two. That much is obvious but few members have had the P and A procedure so I haven'e seen any posts foralong time regarding recovery. You can read our fact sheet on recovery from a normal ablation here.

I did go in for an ablation back in 2021, that's when they discovered the Flutter was atypical so I had cardioversion instead. Am I correct in thinking that AV Node ablation is more straightforward than an ablation for atypical flutter?

Yes AV node ablation is a relatively straight forward ablation procedure compared to ablations for AF. I understand that typical right flutter is a fairly straightforward too. Atypical LA flutter is much trickier.

As we all know, ablation for AF is rather more tricky - especially second or third procedures where the index PVI hasn't been successful.

As BodD says, the same post procedure recovery protocol applies whatever the type of ablation.

Good luck and keep us posted.

It was me Borderterrorist! It's usually only a few weeks so the information is up to date.Recovery time varies, but don't take much notice if the medical team talk about ' being back to normal within a week' I expect its the same for P and A.

I took about 2 weeks to feel more lively after my ablation but still had periods of weariness for several more weeks.

No Flutter though. I can't comment on node ablation though

best wishes ❤️ ♥️

It was only through speaking to the correct person that I found out that for some reason my referral was incomplete, so thank you again . Did you have atypical flutter?
