Hi. folks...Recieved my date for my Ablation Assessment in 4 weeks time.
What Can I expect ? What's the procedure ? And how long is it roughly
After that consultation until the actual Ablation.
Thanks....Terry..

That depends on the hospital and the individual and their history. If I remember correctly mine was about 30 to 45 minutes.
I think that the national guidelines are that the operation or procedure has to be done within 28 days. However with heart procedures they keep that shorter. My ablation was 2.5 weeks later.
Every Hospital is different. I never had a pre visit for any of mine since I had to go in the day before and do all the housekeeping and Q and A stuff, being first one down at 8 am next morning. For my prostate op at a different hospital it was a bout 10 days from memory.
My assessment is on the 11th and the date for the procedure the 28th Jan. Last time round the assessment took about an hour, they do bloods, bp, weight, ecg and a brief hx with the nurse and then in with the EP who is going to perform the procedure. He took me through what would happen in the cathlab and answered all my questions. Pretty straight forward really just keeping my fingers crossed that my inr is in range after the GP messed my dosage about before Christmas
My INR was yo yoing all over the place in the run up to my ablation and was only 2.2 on the day itself and they wanted 2.5 to 3.5. However at the preop assessment 2.5 weeks before cardiac nurse checked with EP and he said not to worry and they would do any adjustments on the day.
My pre-op was the same as MammaCass detailed except that it was the nurse and not the EP who did the explaining. She advised that I did not need to shave, but then women aren't as hairy as men. They also did a groin swab to check for pathogenic bacteria. I think it took about an hour.
My INR was all over the place and they never got it above 1.8 for the ablation. They apparently injected something during the ablation and then the EP prescribed Dabigatran afterwards.
Stay calm, go with the flow. It isn't too bad - if it was then nobody would agree to a second or third one.
Best wishes.
Your cardio will tell you all.
I didn't have any form of assessment just went in at lunchtime, procedure early evening then discharged in the morning.

Good luck.....good decision. !!!!!
I didn't have any pre op. Arrived at 0730 and down in cath lab by 0830. Out by 1030 and home.next day. Good luck
Thanks for all the replies folks,to be honest I can't wait, really looking forward to my ablation...Terry.
I never had an assessment. They took my blood on the day it was decided and went in for the procedure when I was called
That was Kings College Hospital London but I expect they all differ.
I had conflicting advice from two arrhythmia nurses and wound up with an INR that was too low ( 1.9 with blood test but 2.5 with the bedside machine)
EP didn't seem overly concerned and I was given blood thinner prior to procedure and afterwards. He did say he didn't mind if it was higher than three but not below two.
I was given double dose of warfarin and blood thinning injections afterwards
