Ablation done ! Thank you all for your encouragement

Yesterday I had a PFA , the days leading up to it , feeling so stressed and worried , were much worse than the ablation itself !I arrived at the hospital at 7 o'clock and left at 5 o'clock

The cardiologist thinks it was a success but I won't really know for a few months yet

I just feel glad now that I have given it a go !

It has taken me 2 years to make up my mind

I had mine done in France so might be a bit different to the UK

I had a stitch in the groin incision which they took out before I left and only had to lie still for one hour .

Am told I must not do anything for 2 days.

Very lttle for 2 weeks , bit more for the next two and back to normal after a month

If I have had no sessions of Afib during that month to stop Flecainide.

All the staff were so kind and caring , even putting english Christmas songs on for me in the operating theatre !

So , I just wanted to thank you for all the encouraging comments people always post on this site and to tell anyone who is wating for an ablation that I found it more interesting than scarey , once I was there that is !

Happy New Year to you all

Well done you and glad the experience wasn't too unpleasant and that the initial signs are good. I'm getting a Cardioversion in the next few weeks and whilst I hope that works (and sticks for a decent period) an ablation is the next step thereafter. Think my local NHS is not yet offering PFA so it would be RF or Cryo but to be honest I'm up for anything to try and restore a normal rhythm and get some energy back (my A F is persistent)Good luck with the recovery x

I had a cardioversion that , with the help of medication , lasted a couple of years So good luck with that

Thanks, yes I have pre CV clinic next week and they have "invited" me to take Amiodorone for a short period of weeks before and after the CV, it is clearly toxic with lots of potential side effects but reading a few studies I think I will take it to give the CV best chance..

Congrats. I am coming to the end of post PFA week 3. Feel pretty normal but more ectopics and runs than pre-ablation, but no AF, so just trying to be patient. Difficult not to overdo the eating and activity over Xmas though. Looking forward to getting back to my normal life with a bit more control. Got a wedding today!

so glad you’re feeling so positive and it went well 👏

What are the differences between PFA or RF ablation? Mine was cryo…

I haven't had either, but if you ask your question to Google you will get the answer you are looking for. Importantly PFA uses a different (safer) energy to ablate areas inside the heart.

Wishing you a swift recovery and successful outcome. It IS interesting being awake, isn't it. I thought it all fascinating when I had my first!!

Where are you in France? I live in France and had an RF ablation over 2 years ago. I am interested to know where you can get PF ablation in case I need a top-up ( had a couple of episodes of Afib this year so it may be creeping back). I wish you every success with your ablation 🤞

I had mine done in Pau by my cardiologist. I wasn't given any choice , just told I would have a PFA

Where are you ?

Ile de France. So your cardiologist is also an electrophysiologist ? That's great!

Well done! Our fears are many times worse than the event feared. Nice touch that they piped in English Christmas tunes for you. Take your time to heal -- don't overdo anything -- just rest and relax for a while.

We are so glad you had it done. And I bet you are too. It's truly a life-changing procedure when it works. And it usually does.

Not what you're looking for?
