I heard that Taurine and Tumeric Supplements were good for the heart however if on blood thinners may interact to thin the blood even further. Does anyone have knowledge or information on this topic? I am on elaquis 5 mg twice daily.

My understanding is that used in cooking, tumeric is fine but as a suppliment best described as ill advised. I know that many people who take magnesium use the taurate version with claimed good results.

When I was first diagnosed with AF, I was put on warfarin and, at the time was taking turmeric as a supplement. I didn't know about the anticoagulant properties of turmeric then so never thought about it. After some while, I decided that the turmeric wasn't really doing anything so I stopped taking it. The result was that my INR dropped like a stone and I had to have my warfarin dose rebalanced.

Throughout this, I continued indulging my passionate affair with blisteringly hot curries but never noticed any significant effect on my INR. I now take apixaban instead of warfarin so don't have my INR checked anymore.

On the basis of my experience, I'd agree with Bob that turmeric is OK when used in cooking but should be avoided as a supplement.

I have been taking a 500mg turmeric supplement every day for years to deal with joint pain and there does not appear to be an issue with my blood thinner.

Forgot to mention I take taurine and it seems to work for me but I'm keeping notes on that and l-arginine which I take. Free of af for 8 days and left out my evening taurine dose and it came back last night. So I'll go back to twice a day and see what happens

I have a lot of experience in equine management. In recent years turmeric has basically been vilified as the quack medicine to cure all ills, and to control equine behaviour issues. It belongs in curries and your spice rack not your medicine cabinet!!
