I had an ablation for A Fib at Kings College Hospital yesterday and learned afterwards that it was the first one they have performed using pulse field technology.
It was carried out by Mr Husain Shabeeh who told me afterwards that he had been able to isolate all the pulmonary veins 100%, so he considered the procedure a success. I feel absolutely fine, if a bit tired from the GA and have remained in sinus rhythm. Fingers crossed that it lasts. I am very happy that I got this new procedure and do not feel any of the after effects that I expected from a RF ablation.

Hi there. Hoping you recover quickly. May I ask if this was done on the NHS ? I am also waiting for an ablation at Kings, and also under Mr Shabbeeh coincidentally. I have been told possibly Feb or March 2025. I have been on the NHS list since March 2024. Thanks.
Yes it was under the NHS. I was put on the waiting list in February and I called them in October and they gave me the slot for Monday . So it’s probably worth giving them a call. 020 3299 2664 - is the admissions line. I was in fact under Mr Paul Scott but ended up with Mr Shabbeeh on Monday. I hope you are able to get the PFA and it should be fairly soon too.
Many thanks for sharing your experience. I'm really glad that you had a great experience. That's so inspiring and good to know. However, I must admit that I admire your upbeat spirit because I would be just a little bit annoyed by them sharing that information after the fact. The more I think about it the more concerned I am that an NHS hospital would do that. I would feel like a guinea pig, albeit one who feels fine and potentially cured of AF. Again, I'm so happy for you and I wish you well. I'm just kind of shocked that they didn't tell you that before.
Yes I do think they should have told me first. But I had researched the different types of ablation and would have opted for the PF rather than Cryo or RF, if I had been given the choice. Nevertheless I did start wondering about the Doctor’s experience and told him I felt like a guinea pig. The research I’ve read since is that the PFA requires less skill in the hands of the operator - so that has been reassuring. Nevertheless I take your point and if it had not gone so well, I would doubtless be really enraged now.
