post pulse field ablation

had my pulse field ablation yesterday. Apparently it only took half an hour, had a cardioversion aswell as was in persistent AF…..feeling good! Slight wound and bruising but other than that I’m good. Doctor said it was very successful…… just wondered if anyone else has had this “new type ablation” and does it last?

Congratulations! Half hour seems to be a record and that's one of the advantages of Pulse Field Ablation. Less trauma and less time under anesthesia. Can I ask where you had it done and who did it?

I had it done at harefield hospital by Dr Chen

I'm guessing he's a high volume guy. I was looking for someone like Dr. Chen couple years ago, but I ended up doing it more locally here in the United States.

Hi Jim,

Where in US did you have pulsed ablation? Is it still in clinical trial mode? Thanks.

I don't know where Jim had his procedure, but I recently had a pulsed field ablation at UCHealth in Colorado; it is not in clinical trial mode.

Thank you….have heard not available in US till late ‘25. So happy to hear. Hope you are doing well.

I ended up having a cryo- ablation in the United States, because a year and a half ago, it was only in trial mode here. Now Pulse Field Ablation is widely available out of trial in the United States..

You are the first I have heard that’s had this done, to be honest I only heard of it a matter of days ago - thank for posting & look forward to seeing how you get on

I went in to be put to sleep at around 10.30 and I remember being in after care at 12.30. They don’t tell you much, other than that it was successful. However I was warned it was a preventative treatment and not a cure……some people mistake this as a complete cure….but afib has NO cure

Oh yes I know that (damn & blast it) but just on initial reading I saw there is less damage to healthy tissue/cells. Still just researching everything currently xx

My PFA was performed 19 days ago. Only post-surgery things I noticed were a sore throat from tubes and lots of groin bruising which has now completely cleared up.

Mine took 1hour 15mins.

My sore throat was so bad that I feared I had picked up a virus. Then it was gone. My groin bruising was minimal.

For anyone wanting to understand more of ablation techniques and pros and cons of pulsed field ablation I highly recommend the video interview of Patrick Heck of Royal Papworth as part of the recent Online Coffee Morning’ Day 1 of Global AF Aware Week (GAFAW)! Think you can access this if you contact Admin.

Thank you for posting. Was it isolation of pulmonary veins with pulse field? Or was the ablation elsewhere in atria. Hope you stay AF free.

I had mine here in the US in June -- no problems since! Very short procedure and home the same day. I'm delighted! My doctor has taken me off Flecainide altogether and will look and winding down the metoprolol on my next visit. I know it's not a cure, but it sure feels that way 😀... at least for now.

I had a pulsed field ablation at Kings, 10 days ago.

May it last!
