ablation feedback

Since my ablation in May, I have had no signs of AF! It is lovely. It is now nearly 5 months and I feel so different. Heart feels very stable, i haven’t managed to stop the betablockers yet, but I am going to try again soon ….. I will have to reduce very, very gradually.

i notice the odd, random, ectopic beat, but I may have had that anyway,, and it doesn’t bother me.

Good to hear, mine was in June, all was going well until a blip which required cardioversion but back in NSR and enjoying keeping pace with the dog and going upstairs without symptoms and SOB, a great relief. Enjoy.

I didn’t realise quite how much it was affecting me overall!

Great news, it's taken me over a month to get off 1.25mg of Bisoprolol. It's amazing how just a tiny amount still has an effect.

At my 6 month post ablation follow up the EP suggested I stop taking the 2.5mg bisoprolol I'm now on. I haven't done that yet, he didn't mention reducing the dose or what to expect when I did. What issues did you have?

I had odd spikes of heart rate when trying to reduce too quickly. I just reduced amount from 2.5 to 1..25 over a few weeks. Then a few months later (EP advice) after a continued improvement and my resting rate being too low the EP said to come off completely. Which has taken a month or two due to a family bereavement and associated stress. Follow your EP advice.

Thank you for sharing your experience. All the EP said was to stop taking it for a couple of weeks and see how you feel.

I like to do these things gradually and not challenge my body too much! I feel properly alive again now though. Very odd to have strong emotions again

I think the EPs view was that if my AF comes back after stopping bisoprolol then it was going to come back anyway at some point!

I was told to stop it, along with flecainide, one month after the ablation. I did give first, over a few days. When I tried to stop the nebivolol, my bp went doolally! Then I tried to reduce, but was still to much. So I am still taking it - but intend to try very very slowly soon. I don’t like taking medications if don’t need to .☺️

Great news. I had random ectopics after my first ablation (2002) which I found were worse on rate-lowering drugs such as beta blockers or calcium channel blockers. I was nearly permanent AF before, so remained on Flecainide afterwards, which when trying to come off it I found was quelling the ectopics.

Oh, lucky you, Tilly. I’m very happy for you and long may you continue AF free. I had six glorious weeks with no AF after my ablation in March. I felt great and I had very high hopes that I was now fixed. But sadly, the episodes crept back, and I’m now on the waiting list for a ‘top-up’ ablation. It may be up to a year’s wait, so in the mealtime I’m trying weekly acupuncture to see if that helps🤞

Hi, I'm on waiting list for AF clinic having been diagnosed in September. I'm a great believer in acupuncture for general muscular issues and did read that it may be able to help with heart rhythm, has the acupuncture helped atall ? Thanks

Hi RF260, the jury’s still out for me on the acupuncture. My AF episodes do seem to have got less frequent since I started acupuncture, but not stopped. But I think it’s helping my overall health, so I’m sticking with it for now. Also making sure to stay hydrated, which I’m sure is important😊
