Hi, I have recently had a successful second ablation and feel very well, no after effects or any symptoms at all . Just wondering about gentle excercise now and swimming (well , more like doodling about in a pool!) and is it safe to go in a jacuzzi or not. I am still on fairly high dose of Bisoprolol and perindoprol until I see my Consultant which may be another three months. Would be grateful for any replies.
Post Ablation exercise!! : Hi, I have... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Post Ablation exercise!!
How recently? Us old hands generally say two weeks of nothing much and then gradual return to normal but as we know three months min and sometimes six for full recovery. Gentle exercise is good. Short walks getting more adventurous. Swimming is OK if you enjoy it. I tend to swim as far as the bottom and then panic so not my scene. Don't over do things and listen to your body is best advice. You will know if you do too much as you will likely be wasted the next day. Try not to get that far.
Bob
Thanks BobD, I have been reading your advice/comments to queries for the last 18 months or so, and you always seem to reassure people, so I am grateful to hear from you! My last ablation (at Q.E. Birmingham) was 4 weeks ago so I will go careful for a while! I feel so well that you can be lulled into thinking you can do more than is appropriate! I am still a bit breathless when walking up a slope or stairs but am sure that is the Bisoprolol talking ! Thanks for replying !
I agree with Bob.
If it is now 4 weeks and you feel you can begin gentle exercise it will be good for you.
Build it up slowly and listen to your body.

Agree with Bob
Whatever your chosen exercise, the key word is GENTLE ! Build it up over 3 to 6 months and you will end up far better off than over-doing it early on.
I had my ablation on 28 April and my heart still complains when I've supposedly done too much. Yesterday I went shopping for the day with a friend and felt perfectly alright until I got home and suddenly felt exhausted. Today I've had 2 hours of eptopics which stopped a couple of hours ago and then following a glass of cold water my heart is now very irregular for the last hour from 55 to 80bpm. So frustrating. So take care not to overdo it.
Hi again. I didn't mention that I am not on any drugs other than rivaroxoban for blood clotting. I was taken off bisoprolol by my GP because of very low bp. I was advised to keep them as a pip and I have to say I did have to resort to taking one this afternoon because after almost 4 hours it was still very erratic, it took about 40 mins and everything finally settled down. As you are still on meds hopefully you'll have less of these problems.
