Hives

I stopped taking Lansoprazole because I had stomach problems and they ceased. I continued taking Apixaban, but now have hives that are burning and stinging around my neck area. Has anybody else had this problem. I have a doctor’s appointment on Monday. Thank you.

I had hives through taking bisoprolol. Being asthmatic I was never prescribed a beta blocker when I had Paroxysmal AF, but following my heart rate rapidly rising when I was under a general anaesthetic, when I was having my appendix removed, a well-meaning hospital doctor put me on bisoprolol. After 7 weeks I started with painful rashes. A GP who was specialised in dermatology recognised the cause as a very rare side effect of bisoprolol and I was weaned off it. I was prescribed up to 40mg a day of Ceterizine. During the weaning process I had another side effect of bisoprolol, a very sudden exacerbation of asthma, which meant emergency admission to hospital.

Ceterizine worked to get rid of the rashes. I found that I could not eat certain foods without the rashes coming, such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, grapes and bananas. I continued having Ceterizine at a lower dose for 4 years. Rather than having them prescribed I bought them cheaply at Lidl

Hello,

Interesting comment about citrus fruits, tomatoes, grapes and bananas. I eat all of these !

Thank you.

After 4 years of having daily Ceterizine I can now eat all without having hives. In my case it was definitely the beta blocker which caused the problem. My docs did research which showed that every beta blocker would have the same effects of I took them.

Definitely hives? I should have it checked.

Yes I will. Thank you. I’ve been out with a pharmacist friend , though, who seems to think it’s hives. Apixaban can cause this. Will let you know what treatment the doctor thinks is necessary.

Hi,

Interesting....I'mon Apixaban and just a couple of months ago I broke out in horrendous hives for seemingly no apparent reason. my doctor has given me antihistamines to take and if I don't take them, back come the hives.

After reading your post, I'm now wondering if there's some connection to the Apixaban though I've been taking that medication for a lot longer and as I say, the hives only appeared the beginning of June!

Very strange. It'll be interesting to follow whatever you are told about this from your doctor.

stay well, though the hives are horrible, I know!!

Thank you. Mine only appeared after stopping Lansoprazole. Yes, the hives are horrible, they burn and sting. I had to stop the Lansoprazole, because of stomach problems. However, it might have been protecting me from the hives.

I’ll certainly let you know what the doctor says.
