Itchy skin and hives with Xarelto

Has anyone else experienced itchy skin or hives whilst on Xarelto? It is listed as one of the side effects of most anticoagulants.

I've been taking Xarelto for three years and on occasion I do have itchy skin, mostly in the area on my right rib side. When I apply lotion, it goes away.

Thank you for your comment. Mine is like hives and very itchy and creams don’t help really.

I was on Rivaroxaban and had some itchy skin and now on Apixaban and still the same. I blame mine on old age (76), but I cream etc and not so bad. Mostly on my legs. Hope yours goes away soon. Best wishes

Itchy skin on right side and legs on Apixaban worse at night if I get to hot drives me mad at times used itchy skin cream and dr prescribed antihistamines still get it some days worse than others but have had similar with Atorvastatin

I have this on Apixaban but I have had it in the past before taking an anticoagulant. Always in winter. It can be due to dry skin . Before it was I think due to my hypothyroidism which can cause dry skin. My thyroid meds need to be put up at the moment but with the afib I am having to do this very very slowly. I find Benadryl cream or Eurax cream calm the hives. I don't like taking antihistamines as even the non drowsy ones make me drowsy ! But they do work to take away the hives.

Yes I'm on this medication and I get a lot of itching, however, I wasn't sure if it was the xarelto or not I've been cutting down a bit to check but not much change so I've not come to any conclusion yet.

I changed from Xarelto to Eliquis after episodes of hives and angioedema. I’m also on a 6 week course of antihistamines at present. GP prescribed some mild cortisone cream which helped the itching. Good luck!

Thank you. Antihistamines don’t seem to work anymore but I will ask my doctor to change me over to Elquis and see if that works. The only relief is if I take a prednizone tablet and that takes hives and angioedema away for 24 hours

My itching started on holiday (Jan 2020) so could have been the Columbian heat that brought it on. I am taking Xarelto (Rivarboxaban) and have been since Nov 2019. No itching at the start but now I get intense itching on stomach, legs, lower back and arms. Worst at night . I have tried E45, betnovate and Elocon none seem to help. I take 50mg of Difenhidramina at night and that helps a little with sleep. Going to a dermatologist for a biopsy next.

Thanks for reply. I have to take a prednisone ( prescribed by GP ) when really bad as nothing else seems to work would be interested to hear what your dermatologist said. I went to one last year, had all sorts of tests which were inconclusive.

I will update once I get results back in a few weeks. I also requested extensive blood tests to check for liver, thyroid, kidney and blood over-clotting deficiencies. GP seemed supportive to identify the issue.
