Pulse field ablation back in AF 24/7

I had an ablation (3rd) for paroxysmal AF in July had 5 weeks without any AF and then after 5 weeks it returned and since then I’ve been in constant AF. Spoke to my arrhythmia team and they said this can happen in the blanking period but I’ve never experienced this with previous ablations. My bisoprolol has been increased from 1.25mg to 5 mg daily with little effect on HR.

At first I could feel my heart flopping around but it seems to have settled and I don’t know I’m out of rhythm until I check on my Apple Watch.

Has this happened to anyone else and did it settle down eventually?

Yes, the exact same thing happened to me after my 3rd ablation. I went back to the hospital and had my heart cardioverted. It was still my most successful ablation.

Thanks for your reply. I asked about a cardio version but they said they would review it after my 3 months follow up

Quite common but for me at about twelve weeks. A cardioversion arranged by my arrhhthmia nurse sorted it out in 2008 since when no AF.

very reassuring the cardio version worked for you

I’m sorry to hear this Dizzy. Sorry I can’t add anything useful from my experience, but can I ask how high your heart rate is? You said 5mg Bisoprolol isn’t reducing the rate? X

My heart rate is steady at about 95-105 bpm so it’s come down a little from 120bpm. The arrhythmia team don’t seem concerned

Oh that’s good to hear it’s come down to 95-105 ish, and yes around the 100bpm seems to be a level they’re happy with. (I’ve been sent home from A&E as soon as they’ve got my HR down from the high 160s to 110 ish. Though my problem was it always went up again!!)

I really hope you flip back into NSR even without an cardioversion - and that this blip is just a blip, and soon will be a distant memory. Xx

I have no idea about what is common. However around four months after my ablation I clicked into atrial fibrillation and it was continuous for 10 days. Then suddenly it reverted back to the occasional mode. I am now on 5 mg Bisoprol in the morning and 2.5 mg in the evening

thanks for your reply. I’ve been in constant AF for 21 days today. I don’t think mine will revert back unless I have a cardio version now.

sounds pretty similar to what happened to me, I had my second ablation, but after a few days feeling great, my pulse shot up to mid 90’s and above when exercising (walking up inclines). Doc put me on 2.5 mg Bisoprolol a day & apart from feeling knackered all the time my pulse has remained the same. He says I’ve developed a flutter, (which sounds a pretty accurate description, heart flopping around as you describe). He says I could have a cardioversion while I wait for a re ablation but implied that it’s not that successful in curing flutter. My apple watch ecg doesn’t show af though…..

Thanks for your reply. My Apple Watch shows AF but it’s definitely an irregular beat and not just fast so my thoughts are I’m in persistent AF
