Pulse Field Ablation In UK

Has anybody had a Pulse Field Ablation and if so how did it go? I understand it has only been done in the UK since 2022. Does anyone know how available it is now and has anyone been offered this at Raigmore? Thanks in advance.

There are a number of centres doing this procedure in UK so you will have to cast around. A recent report suggested that whilst recovery was usually slightly better than RF or cryo the actual results were hardly better at this time and that side effects were comparable. It is hoped that long term results may improve as experience with the technology increases.

I suggest using the search 🔎 bar at the top of the page, you will find past posts on the subject, some quite recent.

Best wishes

I asked my EP in Aberdeen about this recently and he said they don’t offer Pulse Field ablation. I imagine this is probably your nearest centre for ablation.

Thank you for your reply. My nearest is Raigmore Inverness as I live near John O Groat. Its actually easier to get to Aberdeen as there is a plane from Wick but I don`t know if nhs will refer me from Highlands to an Aberdeenshire/Aberdeen city hospital. But no use anyway if they don`t offer it there. I`m surprised at that actually. Thanks for the info.

Raigmore don't even do ablations, I had to go to Aberdeen for my three ablations. Last one was 2018.

That’s interesting and good news for me as it’s a 40 min plane journey from Wick. I presume though that Raigmore have a fairly decent cardiology department and you went there initially?

Yes I get seen at cardiology in Raigmore but then get referred to Aberdeen for any procedures. I did have my Pacemaker fitted at Raigmore though and attend their clinics regularly plus I have now been given a bedside monitor device which they can remotely check on as pacemaker will need replacing at some point in the next 2 years.

I presume then that Raigmore don’t do cardioversion either?

They do, as I was about to be cardioverted once at Raigmore during a nasty, long episode but the pacemaker team elbowed them aside and used overdrive to bring my heart rate back down. I was delighted.

I had it at Cleveland Clinic in US last month. Was only approved in US about 2 months ago. So far, Afib is gone.
