I have been in Persistent AF for a year to the day.I have been awaiting Cardioversion since September.Arythmia Nurse has asked asap after my present holiday ends 4th Feb.My last call to them was advised no certainty how soon.My quandary is hubby is in a bowls comp end of Feb.Also we need to get things sorted in our apartment in Portugal. If offered CV mid Feb when would I be fit to go & when advisable.I can off course go and be prepared to fly back with a couple of days notice.

What do I do.

Personally I would go. Provided that you don't travel for say 48 hours after DCCV and make sure that you do everything possible to reduce stress, stay well hydrated during the journey etc and above all rest as much as possiblefor the first week there should be no problem.

Thanks Bob that reassures me on biggest worry.Second part of my quandary is if they can't guarantee a date in Feb do I just go & be prepared to return at short notice? I could be waiting for months.I am inclined to do this.

I would go too. Unlike an ablation, it’s not an invasive procedure and it only takes minutes. That said, you need to do everything possible to give your heart the chance to adjust and remain in rhythm so leave yourself plenty of time to deal with all the new rules ‘n regs caused by Covid and Brexit because any stress needs to be avoided. You won’t be a happy bunny if you do something avoidable that brings on AF………

I just spoke to the hospital again.Wont be until at least march so I now have the problem do I go & hope I don't miss the call. The hospital is not doing many Cardioversion each week and some weeks not at all. They have been told must be done by end of March but could be earlier in March.Intended dates away meant come back 14th March.

Hiya, I would go and be prepared to return if necessary- the NHS is so overworked and understaffed - the likelihood of it being delayed is high. I’m waiting to hear from them too. Have a lovely time and rest up in the sun, it’ll do you the world of good 👍🏼
