pulsed field ablation

I’ve read that the above is now available in the UK in some hospitals instead of the standard ablation process. Does anyone know which hospitals offer it and how much it may cost if it’s offered privately. Has anyone actually had a PFA please. I’m looking at ablation options including mini maze which I have read is offered in UK

The electrophysiologist that I see at Papworth, Dr Claire Martin, was one of the first to use it. I don’t know how much it costs privately but her secretary could tell you.

no this was a catheter ablation, it was the catheters themselves that made it so expensive I think

I had PFA in a clinical trial at the Cleveland Clonic in May of 2022. Been in NSR ever since.

I expect it will become the gold standard in the future. This is the graphic I created to help me better understand AFIB as I talked with doctors.

Thanks Kingdaddy. Yes seems to be heading in that direction (PFA). Only four hospitals in UK I’ve read that offer PFA but think they might all be private. Just need to find out who they are (identified a couple so far) and how much it costs for this treatment.

It's important to find the right place. I fired my local EP after 2 failed cardioversions and generally not liking his attitude. My wife who has family in Ohio recommended the Cleveland Clinic and after I researched them and learned they're the #1 heart hospital in the US, it was a no-brainer.

I wish you the best!

Who was your EP at the Cleveland Clinic that did your PFA?

Dr. Tyler Taigen. my.clevelandclinic.org/staf...

Thank you! Two prior ablations for me at Cleveland but not PFA. Still having issues. Hope the PFA is approved soon in the USA; hope you remain Afib free

I hope it is too. Best of luck!

Where you satisfied with Dr Taigen? I am in afib now and plan on going to Cleveland but there are so many EPs

Very much so. Explained things well, spent time with me until my questions were answered, and most importantly, I've been in NSR ever since.

Good luck in your journey! If you’re going to the Cleveland Clinic, you’re in the best hands no matter which EP, they’re all generally great. That’s why it has the reputation it has.

I have had 2 prior ablations at Cleveland with the same physician who is now retired. Hopefully the 3rd time will be the charm, I am waiting for the PFA to be approved but I may not be able to wait

I have a friend who needs an ablation, but the EP told him to wait til next year when a better procedure would be available. I wonder if the PFA was what he meant?

That sounds like it doesn’t it. Apparently it’s more accurate and prevents other tissue getting damaged
