Stairs after ablation?

I had an ablation a week ago and so far so good. I have rested all week and had a couple of short walks. I live on the third floor of an apartment building and our lift is unreliable. There are 60 steps up to my flat - would it now be ok for me to start using the stairs (slowly and carefully)? Under normal circumstances I can use them no problem but don't want to exacerbate anything at the moment!

Quite easy, step up with the ‘good’ leg then raise the ‘bad’ leg to the same step, repeat. It’s a bit slow! You may find you can go up slowly in the normal way, my house had stairs and I don’t remember a problem but only one flight.

Thanks. I stayed with family initially and was climbing one flight with no problem.

Take it slow and easy and you will be fine. Rest and admire the view when possible.

Msybe you read somewhere to avoid stairs for seven days after an ablation?

That's mostly to give the groin wound time to heal.

So if you're not having any problems in that department, you should be fine.

And no reason to do all three flights at once. Take rest wherever and for as long as seems fit.

Thanks. Yes, I knew about the first week, just wanted to double check ongoing :-)

Yes, avoid stairs and heavy lifting the first week. After that, let your body be your guide. We all heal differently.

Hmmmm. I think I'd wait until I didn't need to ask the question and felt confident I could do it.... but maybe I'm over cautious. My experience after 3 ablations was that I needed more rest than they suggested.

I'm constantly up and down stairs in my house. After my (3) ablations, I first took a few steps then rested a few moments; a few more, rested. After that, I just took them all slowly and gradually increased. I hope this helps!

good morning. How are you feeling now post ablation? Would you recommend it? Can I ask was it your first one ?

Hi! Two weeks since the ablation and I am feeling back to normal. It was my first ablation. I was down to have one last October but chickened out as I had had six good months with no symptoms. But then sure enough the AF episodes returned - and I am highly symptomatic and they are very unpleasant. This ablation went well - took 1.5 hours and I was highly sedated so didn't know much about it. The EP was very happy that he had achieved what he wanted and I was in and out in a day. The wound in my groin has healed quickly and I am pretty much back to normal activities. It will take around 3 months to say for sure it has been a success but so far so good!
