Saturday 23.3.24 late evening everything went haywire racing heart dropping beats which I think I brought on myself by being upset and angry over something. I wished I could control my emotions better!
Any way Apple Watch showed irregular rhythm not A fib and inconclusive which sent the stress/ anxiety off the scale .
Give myself a good talking to and tried to settle down which I did, then took reading on Apple watch again and off course it was irregular rhythm, in conclusive again !!!
went to bed to try and destress found that I couldn’t lie in my usual position as felt I couldn’t breath easily and some what choked. And had a rather annoying wheezing sound when breathing so had to sit propped up all night wide awake which didn’t help me . Thinking should I go to A&E mmm No not sitting there for 16 hrs plus to be sent home knowing less than when I went in.
so stayed in bed most of Saturday resting and trying to get some sleep which I did. Oh and I checked Apple Watch Saturday am and it stated I was in sinus rhythm again which relieved me.
Now from I got cardio version my heart rate dropped low lowest 47/48 but heart Dr stated to stay on all medication. But I’m on 10mg bisoprol. split into 2 doses am and Evening. I take the first dose every am . Since cardio version but I’m afraid to take second dose in evening since my heart rate is so low I’m going to try and speak to a Dr in my surgery today if I possible can about same .
Has anyone else had similar results since cardio version ?

Hospitals rarely tell you the following but after lots of cardioversions this is what I've learnt.
Don't do anything to raise your heart rate for a week or so, no walking up hills, or lifting/pulling anything heavy. Allow your heart to gain strength beating at it's correct rate. I once made the mistake of walking up a hill the day after a cardioversion and my heart went straight back into AF. No large meals or alcohol for a while and try not to wear anything tight around your torso.
That's quite a hefty dose of bisoprolol, so yes I'd speak to your GP today and ask outright if you can reduce it.
I’ve started to reduce myself after noticing such a low heart rate with all the other symptoms. I’m baffled why heart dr thought I should stay on all the doses of medication For AF .when they said I was back in sinus rhythm. Totally baffled!
Probably hoping they’d keep you in rhythm? Bisoprolol has a very weak anti arrhythmic effect I believe and is sometimes used to treat stress and anxiety - ring any bells?☺️ Sounds as if you had ectopics. I hope things have settled now. Maybe going forward you could have some help with managing anxiety - I just have to get a bit stressed playing a game on my iPad and I can feel the ectopics starting up - I immediately try to regulate my breathing and consciously relax. Best wishes for long term NSR ❤️🩹
Yes Buffafly the bells ringing load and clear I’ve to deal with a lot of family stress I seem to be the sounding board for everyone to off load on .
Anyway went to Gp she thought I was in A Fib again got a ECG it showed sinus arrhythmia whatever that is ?? And she wanted me to go to the hospital. Because I complained of been breathless. And just feeling rotten- heaviness I said no I’m not sitting in A&E for 24 hrs . She lowered my bisoprol to 1.25 1 a day instead of the massive 10mg split 2 times a day , and said if my bpm were constantly lower than 60 to stop it completely. Have to go back to get ECG and bloods done on Friday . Just took a ECG with my Apple Watch and it showed A Fib .. so looks like I’m back to square 1 again. 🤦♀️
The 10mg of Bisoprolol is a very high dose and is probably the cause of the breathlessness and heavy feeling - typical side effects. You need to wait for this large dose to leave your system and see how you feel on the 1.25mg. If you remain in afib especially if the 1.25mg is not controlling your heart rate sufficiently you need to be referred to a cardiologist who might prescribe an anti arrythmic med like Flecainide or refer you for an ablation.
I have no devices to check whether or not I'm in AF, I know full well when I am. We are all different, but I would never have anything like Apple Watch or Kardia because I would be so stressed checking it!
Been in and out of arrythmia since my cardioversion two years ago...mostly lots of ectopics, sometimes periods where I have an early beat and a longer gap. Sometimes it's normal SR. Doesn't interfere with my moderate exercise routine. Have given up alcohol because I'm on apixoban mixing the two doesn't seem to me to very wise, and alcohol has been linked to AF.
after my CV my drugs are there to help tamper the spikes in adrenaline and help calm your heart. They usually prescribe a higher dose for the first month post CV. Is your lower dose of Biso one a day, a slow release if not then the best effectiveness of the other is up to 12 hours. I’d be talking to the EP or Cardiologist office and they may suggest the lower dose you are taking to twice a day. My HR on BB and Flecainide post CV would be in the 40-50 range at rest. I reduced the doses with Cardiologist approval and everything is fine but I do take them morning and night to get the coverage for 24 hours
I had I cardio version recently but didn’t stay in synus for very long unfortunately I am now in persistent AF again.
After the cardio version I was told to reduce my bisoprolol from 10mg to 1.5mg per day after three days I ended up back in A and E the sudden reduction was probably the cause so I would be careful and reduce slowly.
I am now on 2.5mg twice a day I have paid privately to see cardiologist and had echo and 24 hr monitor, I have a follow up appointment with him on the 2nd April to see where we go from here.
Yes it was as good as I had hoped for. My echo hadn’t changed from the previous one 45% EF so the consultant is going to add another med to my cocktail-2.5 bisoprol, apixaban, statin. He was going to add two but I mentioned my blood pressure was on the low side, so just the one, can’t remember the name of it but he said it would be good for me.
My 24hr monitor showed my rate control was good so he’s happy for me to continue on 2.5 bisoprolol twice daily. It cost me around £1000 to go private but I feel it was money well spent, wasn’t due a follow up appointment until September this year after my cardioversion! So all done and dusted within 6 weeks! We shouldn’t have to do this but peace of mind is so crucial.
I hope you are feeling better now and managed to reduce/stop your medication without too much trouble.
Ejection fraction which measure the rate at which your heart is pumping so mine is not working as efficiently as it should be, normal is above 60% I believe it has been caused by the AF
I’m hoping 5mg of Bisoprolol wil keep my heart rate down the consultant said it needs to be kept strictly under 90 beats when resting.
I hope 5 mg will keep your heart rate down, fingers crossed. 5mg just doesnt work for me the extra 2.5 mg seems to be if I keep myself on a even keel.. With the people around me it's hard to stay 100 % chilled. I have found eating sents.. my AF off too.i have become aware of this. But my cardiologist didn't seem to think this would happen and states no no that wouldn't happen.🤷♀️
Hello, I had a cardioversion 14months ago and thr Advice then was to just stop my meds. 3.75mg /day. I spoke to my pharmacist and they told me NOT to just stop that I had to wean myself of it VERY SLOWLY. He also advised me to take it easy for 10-14 days to allow the heart to establish the new rhythm. I did both these things and reduced the Biso over the course of the next 4 months. Each time I did I was aware of a bit of fluttering in my heart which would then calm down - I reduced by .625 increments down to the end. I’m glad to say that it worked for me. I have also made a point at looking at my stress management and exploring the why’s and how’s I react to things. It’s usually buried somewhere in our subconscious so it can be a deep dive. If I was you I would reduce really slowly.
I think stress response is number 1 on my list for really setting my A Fib into over load very very quickly... How do you change a emotional stress head of 61 yrs 😄🤦♀️
