I've been taking Flecainide 50mg,Soltalol 40mg & Apixaban 5mg twice a day. Could anyone give me their thoughts on the best way to take these tablets reference before or after food. Since taking Flecainide I seem to have burping & seems like trapped wind in the chest windpipe area.Kind Regards Andrew

Hi Andrew. Thats an unusual combination IMO. Flec and Sotaloll??? Take your flec before eating. Sotalol won't matter too much. However, I'm not a medic so best consult your doctor.
I take mine just before I eat otherwise I get a very sore stomach from a pixie band and Flinn seems to dissolve in the throat unless you swallow it with a drink of water, but when I take the tablets and eat straightaway it removes all of this
I can't take either medicine but the burping sensation is common with me. I have concluded that either gastric issues can lead to arrhythmias (as I have to take esomeprazole for reflux and have a small hiatus hernia, too), or the heart arrhythmia can disturb the diaphragm area and cause the gastric troubles. I also can feel gastric discomfort under my left lower ribs and into my back when my heart is "fragile" with palpitations or (much less often) AF. If you look on Wikipedia for, I think, "gastro-cardiac syndrome" you'll find more (this seems to be a contentious condition, by the way, with many doctors not accepting it exists).
Thank you Steve and everyone else that have posted kind reply it is greatly appreciated. A lot of my problems do feel like it is coming from my tummy and back up my esophagus and feels like a lump in the throat when I feel this Sensation. All this can trigger afib which then makes me anxious because like you say Steve no one seems to acknowledge the connection between afib and gastro issues.I sometime get a pain under my left chest area that feels like a pulled muscle.Strange feelings I know.
We share the same symptoms, it seems. I was told when in hospital with atrial flutter that the food pipe can sometimes press tightly against the top of the heart and acid in the throat or even swallowing or gulping can set off PACs (palpitations) and those can spark off AF. The nurse noticed this once when checking my monitor while I had a drink. She was quite excited to see the ectopic beats that resulted! A doctor told me that this natural effect of the anatomy is one of the risk factors doctors have to account for when carrying out an ablation.
I only take 40gm of Sotalol a day now and was hoping this would improve the wind wurdling problem. It hasn't improved unfortunately so I agree with Ppiman that it's not the medication. Mine is worst early afternoon and rumbles around under the left rib cage area. I have to stretch out on my left side to get it to shift. It annoys me intensely and is difficult to cope with unless I'm at home. Embarrassing if if you are in company.🤔
It could be the Apixaban. I've taken both Apixaban and Edoxaban and they both upset my stomach/digestive system. I discussed this with a pharmacist last week and she said they this is a common side effect of these medications.
I don't take either of them as they resulted in my becoming anaemic. Didn't even find out until I sat in the hospital awaiting a my first scheduled ablation and was told - oh its been cancelled because you are anaemic. I only take Sotalol now.
Don't take Flecainide inside 3 hrs after a meal and then don't eat 1 hr after taking them = no problems. Burping is an issue for me and that could be unrelated factors.
