Has anyone taking regular doses of Flecainide had cataract surgery? My surgeon talked about 'hollows' caused by Flecainide - this made the procedure a little more awkward. He wasn't concerned but I cannot find any references to this anywhere.
Anyone help please?

No - I knew Flec could cause eyesight difficulties and in some cases corneal spots but can find nothing about a structural effect. He said it wouldn't cause problems and wouldn't get worse. I see him soon for the second op and wanted to be ready to ask more questions.
Thank you mrgwair. The effects of the first op were spectacular to say the least - colours vivid and the detail on everyday things was astounding. I didn't know porridge has so many shades - they disappear with the old eye. Winking wonderful!
I didn't really expect too much but it's been a revelation (pardon pun) and once the second op is over I can't wait to get back to painting again - in technicolour!!
Sorry, can’t help Finvola but all the best for the op. I had a trabeculectomy a couple of years ago in both eyes to correct the pressure caused by my glaucoma, but it had no connection with my heart meds.
I had cataract surgery both eyes 2018,had taken Flecanide for quite a few years but had stopped about a year before(nothing to do with eyes) no mention of any problem with having taken any meds.
Thank you Fastbeat - it sounded to me like he had seen the effect often and was merely reporting on the detail of the first op - which he said was a total success.
Just had cataracts removed from both eyes with new single vision lenses inserted . Stunning results - I can now see where my golf shots land - something I haven't been able to do in years and driving is so much more enjoyable ! Have been on Flec for some years but my surgeon didnt report anything amiss - the only thing I forgot to do was not to take my daily dose of Irbesartan - apparently it can cause problems with the anaesthetic by taking the heart rate too low ! Enjoy the rest of your new life after the cataract surgery is finished .
Thanks Peter - I can imagine the difference it makes for you, having experienced the massive improvement with just one eye done. Enjoy your golf and the new lease of sightlife.
I have been on Flecainide for over 10 years and had cataract and stent surgery in March didn’t even have to stop Warfarin and everything. Went fine Jo.
Hello Finvola, I'm wondering if you had your cataract surgery and how everything went? Having just searched the posts for Flecainide I see you were asking about it 3 months ago. My husband had surgery on both eyes - three weeks apart and has had terrible problems. I'm going to create another post to see if I can get some comments but from those who replied to you, it does sound as though others on this particular drug have not experienced any major problems. Best wishes.
