The US insurance I have for Medicare recipients increased the Eliquis price by about $900 for 2024. That puts my total price for the year, including the deductible, at about $2,000. I simply can't afford it so I'm considering alternatives. Does anyone in the UK have experience with the generic produced there, by Teva labs? If I can't find a reasonable alternative I will need to go on warfarin.
Hopefully it is acceptable to discuss such issues.

Many in your position utilize Canadian Pharmacies who have discounted prices and will ship to the US. Also, if you income qualify, you may be able to receive Eliquis either free or at a substantial discount from the manufacturer. Just call them.
I am researching Canadian pharmacies online. Lots of unknowns but I'm going to give it a shot. As for the discounts, Medicare enrollees are not allowed to take the drug discounts. Pharma has a monopoly lock on that captive customer base.
I think you'll find that the generic version, Apixaban, is absolutely fine though I'm not a fan of Teva brand in general. I've been taking thyroid hormones for 30+ years and the Teva version of that isn't great. Is there no other generic brand available?
Here in the UK, I take whatever Apixaban is provided by the Pharmacy. Of course, until a year or so ago it was always the branded Eliquis. Since the generics have arrived, I have had both Teva and Stada brands of Apixaban. Currently taking the Stada version but as far as I have experienced there is no difference between any of the different brands.
LJjr. Many in the states order from Canada. A popular one is Pharmstore. You just need a script from your Dr. it is very affordable and sent directly to your home.
I have taken both and found them identical. From my time in the industry, I came to see Teva as a top quality manufacturer, and believe that their products can be trusted.
I have since changed to apixaban, which is supplied by various manufacturers, and I am thinking now, having seen a recent positive study, of changing now to edoxaban as it is once-a-day dosage so more convenient.
If I were you, I would choose the lowest cost drug and feel confident that you are safe. In the USA there is a great deal of sensitivity about generic drugs, I feel. Over here, that does exist, but my experience is that the drugs can be trusted since they are all from suppliers that will have to have proven their credentials regarding manufacturing ability and quality control. Often, in fact, the branded drug is made in the same factory as its generic equivalent, such is the marketing of pharmaceutical these days.
VIa Canadian pharmacies. I looked into buying direct (from India) but they indicate on their site that I cannot do so legally unless the generic is approved by the US Federal Drug Administration.
